THE INTERNET OF HACKABLE THINGS: Researchers hack Philips Hue smart bulbs from the sky.
Researchers were able to take control of some Philips Hue lights using a drone. Based on an exploit for the ZigBee Light Link Touchlink system, white hat hackers were able to remotely control the Hue lights via drone and cause them to blink S-O-S in Morse code.
The drone carried out the attack from more than a thousand feet away. Using the exploit, the researchers were able to bypass any prohibitions against remote access of the networked light bulbs, and then install malicious firmware. At that point the researchers were able to block further wireless updates, which apparently made the infection irreversible.
“There is no other method of reprogramming these [infected] devices without full disassemble (which is not feasible). Any old stock would also need to be recalled, as any devices with vulnerable firmware can be infected as soon as power is applied,” according to the researchers.
The researchers notified Philips of the vulnerability. The company then delivered a patch for it in October.
It wasn’t long ago that claiming “Drones are controlling my lightbulbs!” would have gotten you locked up for your own protection.
QUERY: If this theory about why men love breasts is correct, would we expect to find more eroticization of breasts in cultures that place more emphasis on romantic love? The theory: “Young states from this point of view that when a sexual partner touches, massages or nibbles a woman’s breast it triggers the release of oxytocin in the woman’s brain, just like what happens when she nurses a baby. From this perspective the oxytocin is helping the woman to focus her attention on her sexual partner and strengthening her desire to bond with this person.”

STATE DEPT TELLS FEDERAL COURT IT NEEDS FIVE YEARS TO REVIEW HILLARY’S DELETED EMAILS: This smacks of obstruction of justice, doesn’t it?
State Department officials asked a federal court Monday to consider allowing them up to five years for their review of 31,000 pages of emails recovered by the FBI during its year-long investigation of Hillary Clinton.

UNEXPECTEDLY: Obama Leaves Israel With a Security Nightmare.
As Richard Fernandez noted in September, “The Era of Hope and Change has been one prolonged act of suicide. If anyone had said that Obama would manage to alienate Israel and the Philippines, lose Turkey, pay Iran a hundred billion dollars, preside over the loss of a won war in Afghanistan, lose billions of dollars in military equipment to ISIS, watch a consulate burn, restart the Cold War with Russia, cause Japan to re-arm and go the knife’s edge with China would you have believed it? If someone had told you in 2008 millions of refugees would be heading for Europe and that the UK would leave the EU after Obama went there to campaign for them to remain would you not have laughed? He promised ‘smart diplomacy’ and the restoration of American prestige in the world. How did it come to this?”
Of course, things could get even worse after Obama leaves office, but his legacy — a nuclear-armed Iran — continues steaming forward.
THIS ELECTION HAS BEEN A STUDY IN BLINI-ESQUE SURREALISM: Trump surrogate says Jay Z video features ‘mazel tov cocktails.’
Ahh, the gaffes that start flying as an election winds down. Speaking of which, when faced with a raging blintz-krieg, I’ll bet legendary Soviet agent Victor Davis Hanson could throw a pretty mean mazel tov cocktail himself.
KURT SCHLICHTER: Stop Hillary.
I was not happy to vote for Donald Trump, but Hillary Clinton must be stopped. She and her coterie of soft-handed, Chardonnay-sipping fascists are, in equal parts, malignant and stupid, and many of us believe her hate-fueled pogrom against normal Americans will stand a significant chance of leading to real civil conflict. I’ve seen with my own eyes what horror awaits at the bottom of the slippery slope of corruption and oppression, and I’ve warned of it again and again. This dumb woman’s personal psychodramas are poised to fuel a rocket sled ride downward to disaster.
We have to stop her. We have to elect Donald Trump.
How screwed are we when that’s the best case scenario?
You fight with the army you have.
WELL, GOOD: Harm from a week’s overeating may be canceled by exercise. “In people who do not exercise, the markers of inflammation in fat tissue would normally increase after a week of overeating, but this time the results were different. Instead, the active participants in this study showed no signs of inflammation in their fatty tissue, and no change in glucose tolerance or the chemical breakdown of fat.”

SETH BARRETT TILLMAN: Why the Anti-Trump Commentariat are not Trusted. “I am not going to comment on the substance of the anti-Trump message. You have heard it all before, and you have or will very soon make up your own minds whether Trump or Clinton deserves your vote. What I will say here is that the messengers of the anti-Trump message are not believable because their actions (or, more accurately, the lack thereof) do not accord with their message. Moreover, because these messengers are not believable, on balance, I suspect they are helping Trump, not Clinton. . . . I recently posed a query on Conlawprof along these lines. I noted that many see Trump as posing an existential threat. I asked what have these anti-Trumpers actually have done, other than post opinion and advice on Conlawprof? The answers were staggering.” Well, staggering in the sense of not doing much.
If Trump is Hitler, then having “rejiggered [your] personal portfolio” is not a commensurate response.
THE DNC-MEDIA COMPLEX: WikiLeaks Show Washington Post Writer Asked DNC For Anti-Trump Research.
Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank appears to have asked the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to do the majority of the research for a negative column he wrote about Donald Trump in April 2016.
Milbank’s column was titled, “The Ten Plagues of Trump,” and featured a list of “outrageous things” said by Trump. One of the “plagues” listed by Milbank, for example, was “Blood” and centered around a quote from Trump about Megyn Kelly: “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”
Internal DNC emails suggest Milbanks asked for — and then leaned heavily on — DNC opposition research on Trump for the article.

PAUL RAHE: For Once the Vice Presidency Matters. “When you enter the polls on Tuesday, you may really be choosing between Tim Kaine and Mike Pence. For once, you might want to give some thought to the vice presidential options.”

GET OUT THE VOTE: Subways running in Philadelphia after agreement.
SEPTA reached a tentative-five year deal with the union representing about 4,700 workers earlier Monday morning. Workers have been on strike since Tuesday.
However, service will be gradually phased in throughout the day Monday.
Heavy traffic still clogged streets during the morning rush and commuters faced regional rail delays despite the settlement.
SEPTA expects to have service on subways, buses, and trolleys fully restored in time for Tuesday’s election.
