BYRON YORK: HILLARY CLINTON BLEACHBITS HER PAST.

1984 – a warning for the rest of us, a how-to guide for elite totalitarian leftists.

JUST NBC THE CASUAL RACISM: Did NBC News slip some racism into this love letter to Obama date movie? NBC’s “review” (gee, did you think Obama’s favorite network was going to trash cinematic hagioraphy about him?) contains this curious passage:

The film is not a revealing exposé or a glimpse into the president’s dark side. Despite some digs at Barack’s ego and allusions to a past proclivity for dating white women exclusively, Tanne’s years of research presented hims [sic] with a largely flattering, admirable portrait of these now iconic figures.

As David Rutz of the Washington Free Beacon asks in a pair of tweets, “According to MSNBC, Obama’s ‘dark side’ in his youth included that he dated white women. Seriously though, isn’t this kind of a racist, backwards thing to write?”

Well, it’s certainly on par with CNN acquainting blacks with felons last week:

THE BLUE MODEL IN A NUTSHELL: Robbing the New (Uber) to Subsidize the Old (Taxis).

Ronald Reagan famously summed up the logic of government thusly: “If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.”

Uber and Lyft move, so naturally, the state of Massachusetts wants to tax them. And since taxis aren’t moving nearly as much as they used to, the state wants to hand about a quarter of the tax — five cents out of a 20-cent per-ride levy — to the taxi industry.

This is … words fail. No, literally. I have just spent 20 minutes staring at my screen, trying to come up with something to say other than the blindingly obvious: This is a shamelessly unjustifiable giveaway to a special interest, paid for by taxing a competitor that’s eating their lunch. If our 19th-century forbears had tried to run the economy this way, I would be writing out this column longhand, by the light of a whale-oil lamp.

This is why politicians shouldn’t be given so much power.

GREAT MOMENTS IN OBJECTIVE JOURNALISM: NYT Looking To Hire A “Climate Change Editor” To Make Global Warming Story “More Appealing.”

Flashback: Industry house organ Editor & Publisher demanded in 2007, “Climate Change: Get Over Objectivity, Newspapers.”

A decade later, it’s safe to say that there are few, if any issues left, that the DNC-MSM covers “objectively,” though they get curiously tense when actually called on their myriad biases.

Related: New York Times Seeking ‘Gender Editor:’ “America’s ’Paper of Record,’ which recently lamented mankind humankind’s discovery of fire because of its role in creating the patriarchy, is advertising for a new editor to cover ‘gender issues.’” Heh, indeed.™

AS USUAL, VOX GETS IT WRONG. All the stuff about “trigger warnings,” etc. on campus isn’t a power struggle between faculty and students, so much as it’s a power struggle between faculty and “student life” educrats.

DAN MARKEL UPDATE: The Dan Markel Case: A Notable New Document. “Earlier this week, we reported on prosecution efforts to find out who paid for the 2014 breast augmentation of Katherine Magbanua. If you’ve been following the investigation into the 2014 murder of law professor Dan Markel, you’ll recall that Magbanua is a key figure in the case. She is the mother of two children with Sigfredo Garcia, one of the two alleged hit men, and she is the ex-girlfriend of Charlie Adelson, the former brother-in-law of Dan Markel. At the time of his death, Dan was litigating against Charlie’s sister, Wendi Adelson, regarding various matters arising out of their divorce. We previously outlined some possible theories for the relevance of Charlie Adelson reportedly paying for half the cost of Katherine Magbanua’s $6,000 to $7,000 procedure.”

LIFE IN THE ERA OF HOPE AND CHANGE: In reversal of trend, percentage of gun-owning homes rises.

But the numbers still seem low to me. The way things are going, you’d be crazy not to own guns — though maybe you’d be almost as crazy to tell people you do.

AS JAMES TARANTO WOULD SAY, GREAT ORATORS OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY:

  • “One man with courage makes a majority.”—attributed to Andrew Jackson
  • “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”—Franklin D. Roosevelt
  • “The buck stops here.”—Harry S. Truman
  • “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”—John F. Kennedy
  • “It’s like Ghostbusters, man. When there’s a problem anywhere else, call Ghostbusters. We’re Ghostbusters; so it makes sense that we are there to help them because it helps us.”—Joe Biden, as quoted by the Atlantic on Friday.

And just like Ghostbusters*, the EPA will be the death of us all.

* We’re going to assume that this year’s remake didn’t happen. It’s best that way.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: What I Learned In My Women’s Studies Classes.

When I first discovered women’s studies, I was lulled into a comforting sense that I had discovered the “truth.” It was as if my veil of ignorance had been yanked away, and I was blissfully seeing the world for what it really was.

I have taken seven women’s studies classes; initially at a nondescript state university and later at a women’s college in Manhattan. After taking those classes, I realize that not only was I deluded, but I was led into an absurd intellectual alcove where objective truth is subordinate to academic theories used as political propaganda.

Indeed, since knowledge itself is considered a patriarchal construct, feminist theories are the organizing principles of classes.

The theoretical backbone of women’s studies is grounded in three main conjectures: that of the patriarchy, intersectional oppression, and social constructionism.

None of these contentions can be proven or falsified. Yet, as a student, good grades are contingent on agreeing with them. So what do they actually represent?

Indoctrination, and cushy sinecures for SJW troops.

ALL SHAM, NO WOW: ABC: Obama Hasn’t Kept Promise to Make Donation to ISIS Victim’s Foundation.

Nearly a year-and-a-half after President Obama promised Islamic State terrorism victim Kayla Mueller’s family he would contribute to a foundation set up in her memory, no such donation has been made, ABC News reported Friday.

On March 13, 2015, Obama told Carl and Marsha Mueller he would contribute to the foundation set up in her name, but, in an interview airing on Good Morning America, the parents said with disappointment that it had not occurred.

Kayla Mueller was doing humanitarian aid work in Syria in 2013 when she was snatched by ISIS, the fanatical Islamic terrorist organization bent on establishing a global caliphate. While ISIS videotaped the beheadings of three American men, the plight of “the girl left behind” was, according to ABC reporter Brian Ross, a closely kept secret.

Mueller’s parents did behind-the-scenes work to try to free Mueller, trading 27 emails and sending the group videos pleading for her release. Ultimately, ISIS gave them an ultimatum: pay the $6.2 million ransom or receive pictures of their daughter’s dead body.

The White House, the Muellers said, threatened them with prosecution if they did pay the ransom. In the end, she was killed.

“Later, when the president came to Arizona to console them, the Muellers say he made a promise to help the donation they set up in Kayla’s name, and then broke it,” Ross said.

Carl Mueller said Obama told them it would be an anonymous donation, but he would do it.

“I’m still waiting,” he said.

“There hasn’t been such a donation?” Ross asked.

“No. I’m still waiting for that donation, Mr. President,” Mueller said. “You see the flag at my driveway. It’s not something I take lightly, talking about our president that way, but that’s what he said.”

To be fair, he says a lot of things.

UNEXPECTEDLY! I dumped my fiancé for a Jamaican lover but he fleeced me of £10k and turned out to be a love rat: Louise Chesney, 24, was set to marry her perfect man when a local hotel worker caught her eye on holiday. The “perfect man” dodged a bullet, I’d say, especially after seeing photos of her pale, tubby, and tattooed self. And I love the “I can’t believe this happened” bit, as if it was something that just happened, instead of something stupid that she did.

WELL, THAT’S TRUE: “And look at him. He’s hypermasculinized — more muscular definition than any manly labor or team sport would ever produce. But he’s delivering the kind of lines that were — for propagandistic purposes — traditionally assigned to women. Who talks about becoming a ‘much more sexual person’? It sounds so silly next to ‘being jacked,’ which sounds silly anyway.”

Compare to these WWII Okinawa Marines. But remember, it’s only women who have to deal with society’s expectations regarding appearance.

THE GREATEST PRESIDENTIAL COMEBACKS: Could Donald Trump be one of the lucky ones?

It’s an interesting roundup of political history, but a very selective one: the piece fails to mention one of the key mile markers on the way to Harry Truman’s legendary “Dewey Defeats Truman” moment – smearing Thomas Dewey as a Nazi during the relentlessly dark last days of Truman’s campaign.
