PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW: WHY DID CBS SIT ON CLIP OF TRUMP TELLING SUPPORTERS TO ‘STOP’ HARASSING MINORITIES? CBS sequestered the video for two days – two days that Trump’s clip could be used to simultaneously quell violence and promote the Trump interview on Sunday night as a bombshell worth watching.

Of course, to ask the question is to partially answer it: Ben Rhodes, Obama’s deputy national security advisor is the brother of CBS News president David Rhodes. Scott Pelley, the network’s nightly news anchor, once likened global warming skeptics to holocaust deniers. John Dickerson, the host of Face the Nation and the “political director” for CBS, wrote an article for Slate in 2013 charmingly titled “Go for the Throat! Why if he wants to transform American politics, Obama must declare war on the Republican Party.” To paraphrase his remarks on Trump, apparently, CBS CEO Les Moonves believes that riots might or might not be good for the country – but they’re damn good for CBS. Which might explain why CBS news executives are fine with wide swatches of their viewers taking that “go for the throat” rhetoric far too literally.

As Glenn noted earlier, “Kellyanne Conway: Clinton, Obama Need To Calm Down Anti-Trump Protesters,” and so should their surrogates and family members in the DNC-MSM.

STEVEN HAYWARD: “I think I’ve figured out why liberals are losing their minds over Trump’s stunning upset: It’s starting to sink in that the Clintons have torpedoed a second presidential election. But for Bill’s peccadillos, Al Gore would very likely have won the electoral college contest in 2000. And but for Hillary’s baggage, they might well have won this one.”

PUTTING THE ICING ON THE HAPPY FUN VICTORY WEEK CAKE: More than two dozen protesters briefly occupied the Capitol Hill office of Sen. Charles Schumer, objecting to close ties to Wall Street by the man poised to lead Senate Democrats. “The protesters came from groups that included Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Matter. They argued Hillary Clinton’s defeat was because of her coziness with big-money donors, and that Schumer is from the same mold.”

Well, they’re not wrong. I encourage them to stick to their principles.

RIDE THE LEFT’S TRUMP AS THE POLITICAL EQUIVALENT OF 9/11 RECURSION! One of the memes the left seems to have coalesced to explain how they feel (and it’s always about the feelz with the left) about Trump winning the presidential election is that Donald Trump heading the federal government is the political equivalent of September 11th, 2001, which according to lefty blogs back in 2007, 35 percent or more of Democrats believe was caused by the head of the federal government.

And yet, as Kathy Shaidle has memorably pointed out, if you really did believe that the president ordered 3,000 Americans killed by slamming planes into the World Trade Center, and Pentagon, and/or by “controlled demolitions” to gin up war in the Middle East, you’d want to get the hell out of the country at once, and/or you wouldn’t feel comfortable openly discussing your conspiracies at the local Starbucks. (See also: Brutal Nazi and Soviet crackdowns on those who questioned Hitler and Stalin’s actions.) Similarly, Democrats seem to not get the disparity between comparing Trump to Hitler, and yet nothing at all happening to them.

Oh, and speaking of 9/11, As Sean Davis of the Federalist tweets, Democrats are considering a 9/11 Truther to be the chairman of their party:

Freshman Congressman Keith Ellison was among friends Sunday — in this case, a gathering of atheists — so his support for a fistful of hot-button opinions, including the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney, brought enthusiastic nods of approval and standing ovations.

As he was introduced to the eclectic gathering, which included one man wearing a black T-shirt that read “Investigate 9/11,” Ellison was told that after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Muslims had joined atheists at the bottom of popular opinion polls.

“You’ll always find this Muslim standing up for your right to be atheists all you want,” Ellison, the first Muslim to serve in Congress, said in a speech to more than 100 atheists at the Southdale Library in Edina. As Minnesota’s first black member of the U.S. House ends his first six months in office, Ellison did not disappoint a crowd that seemed energized the more pointed he made his opinions.

On impeaching Cheney, which the Minneapolis DFLer supports: “[It is] beneath his dignity in order for him to answer any questions from the citizens of the United States. That is the very definition of totalitarianism, authoritarianism and dictatorship.”

On comparing Sept. 11 to the burning of the Reichstag building in Nazi Germany: “It’s almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that. After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it and it put the leader of that country [Hitler] in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted. The fact is that I’m not saying [Sept. 11] was a [U.S.] plan, or anything like that because, you know, that’s how they put you in the nut-ball box — dismiss you.”

To be fair though, Ellison’s crusade for the DNC chair seems to be enjoying “unexpectedly” wide support on both sides of the aisle.

MY USA TODAY COLUMN: “Tolerant” Campus Administrators Exclude Trump Voters. “When you treat an election in which the ‘wrong’ candidate wins as a traumatic event on a par with the 9/11 attacks, calling for counseling and safe spaces, you’re implicitly saying that everyone who supported that “wrong” candidate is, well, unsafe. Despite the talk about diversity and inclusion, this is really sending the signal that people who supported Trump — and Trump carried the state of Michigan, so there are probably quite a few on campus — aren’t really included in acceptable campus culture. It’s not promoting diversity, it’s enforcing uniformity. It’s not promoting inclusion, it’s practicing exclusion. And, though it pretends to be about nurturing, it’s actually about being mean to those who don’t fall in the nurtured class.”

* No really, that’s what he said, just a few months ago. I say, I don’t want to hear another goddamn word about Glenn Reynolds’ carbon footprint. (Though the timing of Kerry’s trip — exiling himself to Siberia the same week Trump wins — was an unintentionally brilliant metaphor by the Botoxed Brahman, and just added to the joy that was Happy Fun Victory Week.™)

Strange, how a man once so reviled has gained stature in the memory. How we cheered when Richard M. Nixon resigned the presidency! How dramatic it was when David Frost cornered him on TV and presided over the humiliating confession that he had stonewalled for three years. And yet how much more intelligent, thoughtful and, well, presidential, he now seems, compared to the occupant of the office from 2001 to 2009.

Nixon was thought to have been destroyed by Watergate and interred by the Frost interviews. But wouldn’t you trade him in a second for Bush?

Curiously, despite all the newfound respect Nixon has received over the years from the likes of Ebert and Timesmen such as Thomas Wicker and Paul Krugman, I’m not sure how comforted the left will be with the comparison of Trump to the 37th president.
