NEVER GO AGAINST THE FAMILY, JIM: Pelosi: Maybe Comey’s ‘not in the right job.’

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) floated the possibility Wednesday that FBI Director James Comey could be one “the casualties” of the 2016 election.

Comey has been under fire from Democrats and some Republicans after sending a letter to lawmakers last week saying the FBI had found potential new evidence in the investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

“Maybe he’s not in the right job,” Pelosi said to CNN.

“I think that we have to just get through this election and just see what the casualties are along the way.”

Casualties? That seems a bit grim. . . .

BAD LUCK: A Cashless Economy in Zimbabwe? With Little Cash, There’s Little Choice.

To withdraw money from their accounts, many Zimbabweans must spend hours in lines or make multiple visits to their banks. Credit cards are accepted at very few establishments in Zimbabwe.

To keep cash inside the country, the government has banned imports of certain goods. It has also encouraged the use of debit cards and mobile money. In August, there were more than four million debit card transactions in the country, more than three times the total in January, according to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.

For months, business was languishing at the Tipperary’s nightclub, a popular spot for professionals in Harare. Patrons simply did not have the cash to hang out.

“Since the introduction of swiping machines, business has improved a bit,” said Edmund Rukweza, a bartender at the club.

Some have discovered the strange change in consumer behavior induced by plastic.

“I’ve found it less painful to use my card than taking out hard cash from my pocket,” said Edward Vambire, 32, who had spent $3 on three lottery tickets at the MegaGame Sports Betting parlor.

It looks like Zimbabwe has figured out how to get people spending money again — make them feel like it isn’t real.

FBI CLINTON FOUNDATION INVESTIGATION DRIP DRIP DRIPS: Cheryl Mills’ personal laptop wasn’t destroyed? The emails on Weiner’s laptop aren’t duplicates?

Fox News Channel’s Bret Baier reports:

“…an indictment is “likely” in the case of pay-for-play at the Clinton Foundation, “barring some obstruction in some way” from the Justice Department.”

More:

“FBI sources say with 99% accuracy that Hillary Clinton’s server has been hacked by at least five foreign intelligence agencies, and that information had been taken from it.”

The game’s afoot.

YES, YES, BUT IT’S THEIR ELITE FIGHTERS.  DOESN’T MEAN WE SHOULDN’T BE WATCHFUL: Just remember they don’t have anything that we don’t have bigger and better in Hays Kansas. Including elite fighters. Military Leader: Iran Sending Elite Fighters Into U.S., Europe.

WELL, WELL: Secret Recordings Fueled FBI Feud in Clinton Probe: Agents thought they had enough material to merit aggressively pursuing investigation into Clinton Foundation. “Amid the internal finger-pointing on the Clinton Foundation matter, some have blamed the FBI’s No. 2 official, deputy director Andrew McCabe, claiming he sought to stop agents from pursuing the case this summer. His defenders deny that, and say it was the Justice Department that kept pushing back on the investigation.”

McCabe’s the one whose wife got big donations from Clinton ally Terry McAuliffe.

CULTURE OF CORRUPTION: Trump’s Closer: How Did Hillary Get So Rich? “The Clintons made several millions off of book deals, but made a lot more off of their connections to power and monied interests, including $57.5 million during the four years Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State. Donald Trump has occasionally made reference to this, but he’s making it an explicit argument in the final week with his new ad, “Corruption.” Washington Post analyst Chris Cillizza is impressed. . . . Don’t forget that the Clintons had been in federal office continuously from January 1992 to February 2013, a period of twenty-one years, while they amassed a nine-figure net worth. Only a small portion of that came from book advances, while their speeches and especially Bill’s consultancy income derived almost entirely from Hillary’s status as a Senator and later as Secretary of State. (See Laureate Education for an $18 million example, where Bill was paid eight figures to be an honorary chancellor.)”

MY USA TODAY COLUMN: Don’t trust Clinton to avoid stupid wars: The world she had a big hand in making as Secretary of State doesn’t look very peaceful.

President Lyndon Johnson, running for reelection in 1964 against Sen. Barry Goldwater of Arizona, released perhaps the most famous political advertisement of all time. As Smithsonian Magazine describes it: “A 3-year-old girl in a simple dress counted as she plucked daisy petals in a sun-dappled field. Her words were supplanted by a mission-control countdown followed by a massive nuclear blast in a classic mushroom shape. The message was clear if only implicit: Presidential candidate Barry Goldwater was a genocidal maniac who threatened the world’s future.”

Goldwater, we were supposed to think, was a crazy guy who’d get us into a stupid war. Except it turned out that LBJ, crazy or not, was the one who got us into a stupid war, escalating to the point where, at its peak, we had 538,000 soldiers in Vietnam. That led to a famous political joke: “They told me if I voted for Goldwater, we’d have half a million soldiers in Vietnam. And sure enough, I voted for Goldwater — and we’ve got half a million soldiers in Vietnam.” By the time the war was over, more than 58,000 Americans were dead.

Now it’s Hillary Clinton who’s sounding LBJ’s theme. Trump, she says, is crazy and will get us into a stupid war. And she’s enlisted the Daisy ad girl, now all grown up, to make her point.

Not everyone is buying it.
