HILLARY’S LIES FINALLY BEGIN TO ADD UP: “The problem with Hillary having pneumonia isn’t that she’s sick,” Betsy Newmark writes:
I think most people can understand that someone can come down with a disease, especially if she’s travelling all over the country on planes and shaking so many hands. What is the problem is how her campaign handled the questions about her health and then seemed to try to cover it up on Sunday by claiming that she was simply overheated. Their first choice always seems to be to lie. Well, the snake rots from the head. She has been lying and deceiving the American people ever since she came on the scene. This was just one more example.
Assuming that she doesn’t have anything more wrong with her than the pneumonia, she’ll still be hurt because this plays into the image everyone has of her to whom mendacity is the natural state of affairs.
For example, John Hinderaker points to her story about men insulting her when she took the LSAT for possibly taking their spot and forcing them to be drafted instead.
* * * * * * * *
So the climax of Hillary’s story: “If you take my spot, I’ll get drafted, and I’ll go to Vietnam”–is a lie. Trust me, anyone taking the LSAT in the fall of 1968 knew exactly what the law was on draft deferments for graduate school.
Wasn’t that before Audie Hillary Ermey Rambo Jr. herself claimed she was umm, rejected by the US Marines?
FROG SAYS SCORPION MUSTN’T STING: Supporters say Clinton must shake secrecy.
A wobbly, overheated Clinton was caught on video being helped into a van by Secret Service agents after leaving a Sept. 11 memorial in New York, an image that has dominated the news cycle for the last two days and could do lasting damage to her presidential hopes.
Clinton allies say it could all have been avoided if she and her campaign had been forthcoming and aboveboard about the Democratic nominee’s bout with pneumonia.
They point to Clinton’s unwillingness to give up an inch of privacy as the root of the problem.“The way it all unfolded on Sunday was sloppy at best,” said one former Clinton aide. “With a little more transparency, we probably wouldn’t be discussing this at all today.”
While the allies acknowledged that Clinton would have taken a hit over her illness, “releasing more information will always help, that’s the reality,” another former aide said.
“Privacy” is one word for Clinton’s attempts to hide… well, pretty much anything she can. “Lying” and perhaps “obstruction” are others.
PUBLIUS DECIUS MUS: Restatement on Flight 93. “Well, that was unexpected. Everything I said in “The Flight 93 Election’ was derivative of things I had already said, with (I thought) more vim and vigor, in a now-defunct blog. I assumed the new piece would interest a handful of that blog’s remaining fans and no one else. My predictive powers proved imperfect.”

STRANGE NEW RESPECT, IN THE WASHINGTON POST: Build The Wall. “Just because Donald Trump isn’t qualified to be president — and just because much of his agenda is hateful and undesirable — doesn’t mean that everything he says is automatically wrong. Some of his ideas deserve consideration and enactment. One of these is building a wall across our southern border with Mexico. . . . A wall probably represents our best chance of reaching broad agreement on immigration policy, a subject that has frustrated Congress and the two most recent presidents.”
I will note that making Mexico pay doesn’t require agreement from a Mexican president, just a tax on remittances.
NEWS YOU CAN USE: Hillary “is under no illusions that you want to have sex with her, or that she’s going to seduce you,” Joe Garcia, “the former Miami Democratic congressman running for his old seat, told supporters in a candid moment over the weekend,” according to the Miami Herald in their unfortunately titled column “Naked Politics.”

NOW ON SSRN: My paper for the Cato Supreme Court Review on the Supreme Court’s next term. I discuss leading cases pending, some cases not taken (like the New York / Connecticut gun-control laws), the possibly-disastrous effect of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s comments on Donald Trump should there be a disputed election result, and the diminishing role of the Supreme Court in relation to lower courts. Download it early and often!
Here’s an excerpt from my Ginsburg/Trump discussion:
The comments were injudicious, and though they are unlikely to become relevant in the coming term, should they in fact matter – because of a contested election, with the nation closely divided – her recusal, or worse, her refusal to recuse herself, would undoubtedly have explosive results, both for the nation and for the Court itself, an institution that depends on public regard and that has been growing less popular already in recent years. The comments are an iceberg that most likely will never meet its Titanic, but worth noting here because, should that meeting come to pass, the results would surely be the most significant event of the coming term.
Looking somewhat more likely now than last month.
I’M SURE WE’LL HEAR MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT A WAR ON THE FIRST AMENDMENT, BUT HEY — THE CONSTITUTION IS A LIVING, BREATHING DOCUMENT THAT MUST CHANGE WITH THE TIMES, RIGHT? Katie Couric sued over deceptive editing in gun control documentary.
Katie Couric and director Stephanie Soechtig are being sued for defamation after they inappropriately edited their gun-control documentary to make gun-rights activists look bad.
Back in May, Stephen Gutowski of the Washington Free Beacon released audio from Couric’s interview with gun-rights group Virginia Citizens Defense League, which was interviewed by Couric and Soechtig for their documentary, “Under the Gun.” In the film, Couric asks members of the group: “If there are no background checks for gun purchasers, how do you prevent felons or terrorists from purchasing a gun?”
In the movie, the group members appear to sit in silence for nine agonizing seconds afterward, apparently unable to come up with an answer. But the audio Gutowski provided shows that the members of the group did immediately give answers to Couric’s question. Right away, they began discussing background checks and the “classes of people” who are already legally barred from owning a firearm, and various issues pertaining to pre-emptive law enforcement.
“So, what we’re really asking about is a question of prior restraint,” one says. How can we prevent future crime by identifying bad guys before they do anything bad? And, the simple answer is you can’t. And, particularly, under the legal system we have in the United States, there are a lot of Supreme Court opinions that say, ‘No, prior restraint is something that the government does not have the authority to do.’ Until there is an overt act that allows us to say, ‘That’s a bad guy,’ then you can’t punish him.”
Yet in the film, it appears no one in the group has an answer to Couric’s question.
Now VCDL is suing Couric and Soechtig for “false and defamatory footage,” according to a copy of the lawsuit obtained by the gun-rights website Bearing Arms. VCDL alleges in the lawsuit that Couric and Soechtig “manipulated the footage in service of an agenda: They wanted to establish that there is no basis for opposing universal background checks by fooling viewers into believing that even a panel of pro-Second Amendment advocates could not provide one.”
VCDL claimed Couric and Soechtig “acted with actual malice” by telling members of the group to sit silently for 10 seconds while they allegedly calibrated recording equipment. It was this clip, the group believes, that was used in the film to make them appear unable to answer the question.
It’s not a crazy claim. The First Amendment gives publishers the benefit of the doubt, but it doesn’t provide a get-out-of-court-free card when, you know, there’s not much doubt.

THIS IS PRETTY MUCH THE 21ST CENTURY I WAS PROMISED: Uber Debuts Self-Driving Cars in Pittsburgh.
More than two years ago Uber – like most in the car business – identified autonomous driving technology as the springboard for the next stage of growth.
The aggressive San Francisco-based startup has already shaken up the world’s taxi services, earning a valuation of $68 billion. It plans ultimately to replace many of its 1.5 million drivers with autonomous vehicles.
But it is not as if robots are taking over the Steel City. There will be only four self-driving vehicles available to passengers, to start, and two people will sit in the front to take over driving when the car cannot steer itself.
Two people?

CBS NEWS EDITS OUT BILL CLINTON’S ‘FREQUENTLY’ REMARK ABOUT HILLARY’S FAINTING EPISODES.
Reminder: David Rhodes, the president of CBS News, is the brother of Obama’s now infamous Middle East advisor Ben Rhodes, “The Aspiring Novelist Who Became Obama’s Foreign-Policy Guru,” who committed the ultimate Kinsley gaffe when he told the New York Times a few months ago his sycophantic DNC-MSM correspondents—whom he contemptuously dismissed as “the blob”—are on average “27 years old, and their only reporting experience consists of being around political campaigns. That’s a sea change. They literally know nothing.”
And that’s just how his brother at CBS seems to like it. As John Sexton writes at Hot Air, “CBS News has a history of failing to highlight information that might tend to make a Democratic candidate look bad. Recall that in 2012 Mitt Romney was widely judged to have blown a debate with President Obama when he suggested the president had not identified the Benghazi attack as an “act of terror” in a speech given the next morning. CNN’s Candy Crowley fact-checked Romney and CNN backed her up later. Meanwhile, CBS News had video from a 60 Minutes interview with the president which was shot the same day Obama gave the speech. In the edited segment Obama agreed he had avoided labeling the attack terrorism. CBS knew it had this clip but sat on it until two days before the election when it was quietly posted online. Former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson told me in 2014 she believed CBS intentionally sat on the material.”

I dunno – frequent fainting episodes seem like what King’s de facto boss Joe Biden would call a “BFD.” But then, as Iowahawk would say, “Journalism is about covering important stories. With a pillow, until they stop moving.” Curiously though, the DNC-MSM’s efforts at blocking Hillary’s health episodes only seems to be powering them forward.
WHY ARE DEMOCRAT-RUN CITIES SUCH CESSPITS OF ABUSE, INJUSTICE, AND UNDERAGE PROSTITUTION? She Accused Bay Area Cops of Sex Crimes, They Sent Her to Rehab.
Seven of these officers from the Oakland, Contra Costa, and Livermore police departments now face charges for underage sex, obstruction of justice, engaging in prostitution, and public lewdness. As the accusatory witness for the prosecution, Guap’s testimony is key; without it, there’s no case, as Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley said on Friday.
But in a remarkably lucky break for the officers accused, Guap has left California.
Two weeks ago, one of the police departments implicated in her case, the Richmond P.D., paid for her to go rehab out of a state fund for drug recovery and even drove her to the airport where she boarded a flight for southern Florida.Only three days into her rehab stint, Guap was arrested for allegedly biting a security guard.
Now she’s in jail and the case against California cops is on hold.
There don’t seem to be any good guys in this story.
QUESTIONS NOBODY IS ASKING. “Why Are The Media Objectively Pro-Trump?” asks…Paul Krugman?!
Geez, in the past, starting with Al Gore after the GOP won the 2002 midterms, Democrats usually wait until after they’ve lost an election to start imagining rightwing media bias. POWELL IN LEAKED EMAIL: ‘I didn’t tell Hillary to have a private server at home’
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell vented to his associates earlier this year about Hillary Clinton’s attempts to rope him into her defense of her email practices, according to alleged leaked messages reviewed by POLITICO late Tuesday.
“I didn’t tell Hillary to have a private server at home, connected to the Clinton Foundation, two contractors, took away 60,000 emails, had her own domain,” Powell said in one Feb. 4 email to former Reagan White House chief of staff Kenneth Duberstein, in the latest cache of hacked communications among top Washington insiders to emerge in the heat of this year’s presidential campaign.
In a separate email that day to Condoleezza Rice, who succeeded him as George W. Bush’s secretary of state, Powell wrote: “Been on the phone and email all afternoon. Hillary and Elijah Cummings have popped off.”
Two days later, Rice wrote back, “I don’t think Hillary’s — ‘everyone did it,’ is flying.”
It’s flying for those who want it to.
THERE ARE NO “SAFE SPACES” FOR conservatives at Columbia.
RESTORING LOCALISM.
Kind of reminds me of this bit on Democrats in Western Pennsylvania voting for Trump: “Democrats in these small communities want to hold on to their way of life; they feel their communities have as much value as those of their more-cosmopolitan Democratic cousins, and they cannot reconcile themselves to a national Democratic Party that they feel is working against them. . . . Every single person who walked into Lee Supply’s training room was a registered Democrat—and pledged to vote for Trump.”
