Iran’s Revolutionary Guards conducted ballistic missile tests earlier this month, in what they said was a demonstration of Iran’s non-nuclear deterrent power.

[U.N. Secretary-General] Ban, speaking to reporters in Geneva on the sidelines of a conference on Syrian refugees, said: “Out of this agreement (with major powers), now Iranians have launched ballistic missiles. It is true that that has caused alarm and concern.

“But what kinds of sanctions, what kind of measures should be applied is up to the Security Council members,” he said.

I had been assured by no less than President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry that the lifted sanctions would “snap back” without any new Security Council deal if Iran violated the agreement.

REPORT: Israeli firm helped FBI hack iPhone.

The Israeli mobile forensics firm Cellebrite helped the FBI hack into the iPhone of San Bernardino shooter Syed Rizwan Farook, NBC reports, citing industry sources.

The firm has been rumored to be behind the FBI’s newfound ability to access the device, thanks to a previous and unconfirmed report from an Israeli newspaper.

Neither Cellebrite nor the Department of Justice has confirmed the reports.

The FBI has routinely contracted Cellebrite over the last five years. The company, which publicly boasts of its ability to hack into Apple devices, has received over $2 million in purchase orders from the agency since 2012.

The DOJ on Monday withdrew its case against Apple, telling a federal court it was able to unlock the device without the tech giant’s help.

Hmm.

Because of what Europe has become, it now has few viable choices in dealing with radical Islamic terrorism. Its dilemma is a warning to Americans that we should turn away from a similar path of national suicide. After suffering serial terrorist attacks from foreign nationals and immigrants, a normal nation-state would be expected to make extraordinary efforts to close its borders and redefine its foreign policy in order to protect its national interests.

But a France or a Belgium is not quite a sovereign nation any more, and thus does not have complete control over its national destiny or foreign relations. As part of the European Union, France and Belgium have, for all practical purposes, placed their own security in the hands of an obdurate Angela Merkel’s Germany, which is hellbent on allowing without audit millions of disenchanted young Middle Eastern males into its territory, with subsequent rights of passage into any other member of the European Union that they wish. The 21st-century “German problem” is apparently not that of an economic powerhouse and military brute warring on its neighbors, but that of an economic powerhouse that uses its wealth and arrogant sense of social superiority to bully its neighbors into accepting its bankrupt immigration policies and green ideology.

The immigration policies of France and Belgium are unfortunately also de facto those of Greece. And a petulant and poor Greece, licking its wounds over its European Union brawl with northern-European banks, either cannot or will not control entrance into its territory — Europe’s window on the Middle East. No European country can take the security measures necessary for its own national needs, without either violating or ignoring EU mandates. That the latest terrorist murders struck near the very heart of the EU in Brussels is emblematic of the Union’s dilemma.

When nations are run by a ruling class that doesn’t take pride in the nations it rules, the outlook is poor.

ASKING THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS: Who wins with a $15 minimum wage?

The Los Angeles Times report somehow fails to list union workers among the winners. They earn quite a bit more than the minimum, but many of them have their pay scales indexed to the minimum wage. Unions also give heavily to Democratic politicians who support union-friendly issues like hiking the minimum wage.

And the losers? Anyone whose labor is worth less than $15 an hour, and who is about to learn the hard way that the real minimum wage is always zero.

SHOOT THE PRESIDENT, THEN LIVE IN LUXURY 35 YEARS LATER: That’s the life of failed Reagan assassin John Hinckley, who spends much of his time these days free to stroll about an upscale gated resort community on the James River near Williamsburg, Virginia, where he shares a luxury residence with his elderly mother.

It was 35 years ago today that Hinckley shot Reagan, White House Press Secretary Jim Brady, Secret Service Agent Timothy McCarthy and police officer Thomas Delahunt. All four survived, but Brady, who was shot in the head, was permanently disabled. The bullet that hit Reagan came literally within a half inch of striking the president’s heart.

His lawyers are pushing a federal judge to end all restraints on Hinckley, who is often seen shopping, alone, in area stores, and walking, alone, on the many secluded trails in the heavily forested area, according to the Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group’s Richard Pollock. Government lawyers are fighting to keep Hinckley under observation because the doctors say some of his mental problems persist.

As it happens, the Hinckley home is on the 13th hole of one of the resort’s three PGA-quality golf courses, not far from where President Obama prepared for one of his 2012 debates with Mitt Romney and both congressional Democrats and Republicans frequently convene meetings.

“This is absolutely so wrong. To let this guy go free. He almost killed the 40th President of the United States, coming within an inch of his heart,” Jim Kuhn, top executive assistant to Reagan and first lady Nancy Reagan throughout their eight years in the White House, told Pollock. “He ruined Jim Brady’s life. And he shot two other people. And he’s going to walk? This guy is out scot-free? I just don’t get it.”
