MEET TASHFEEN: First photo of female San Bernardino shooter Tashfeen Malik.

But hey, don’t worry–all those Syrian refugees that President Obama is letting in “are mostly women, children and families” according to the Obama Administration’s new propaganda video, “Meet Reema.”

FREE SPEECH IS NO ‘DIVERSION’: If you’re looking for a weekend #longread, check out this piece by FIRE Executive Director Robert Shibley taking on attempts to dismiss the free speech issues arising out of the current campus protests.

DEPT OF ED SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM WITH AFFIRMATIVE CONSENT POLICIES:  Last week FIRE wrote to the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and requested that OCR ask colleges and universities not to use “affirmative consent” standards that violate the due process rights of students accused of sexual assault.

Affirmative consent policies are generally overbroad, vague, and unfairly shift the burden of proof to the accused. And how would an innocent student demonstrate he or she received affirmative consent? As Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal, co-author of California’s campus affirmative consent law, said: “Your guess is as good as mine.”

You can read FIRE’s letter over on our website and learn more about the letter over at The Torch.

Also be sure to watch students struggle to define what affirmative consent even means in this video:

IT’S OFFICIAL: FBI is investigating the San Bernardino shooting as terrorism. LAT reports:

San Bernardino shooter Syed Rizwan Farook had contact with people from at least two terror organizations overseas, including the Nusra Front in Syria and al-Shabab in Somalia, a federal law enforcement official said Friday.

The revelations came as the FBI formally announced they were investigating the shooting spree as an act of terrorism.

THE BIGGEST STORY OF OUR DAY ISN’T WHAT YOU THINK: Reason‘s Ron Bailey explains it. Good backgrounder here. In the near term, mosquitoes, not humans, are the interesting case.

AMERICANS BETTER START BELIEVING IN EVIL: When a mother chooses jihad over life. Maggie Gallagher at NRO writes:

The San Bernardino shooters brought a baby into the world, then slaughtered 14 adults.

‘The motive is unclear.” That’s the headline CNN is flashing on its screen Thursday evening. “They haven’t ruled out terrorism,” Don Lemon intones. Is this a newscast or an Onion parody?

Sure, somehow the San Bernardino shooter got himself a Pakistani wife in Saudi Arabia just two years ago who was willing to turn their baby’s home into a bomb factory, willing to drop the baby off at his mom’s, willing to go back to an office Christmas party with two assault rifles, several handguns, and three connected homemade pipe bombs and murder 14 people. Because the lady is not going to let her man be dissed in the workplace? . . .

I am trying to imagine what kind of woman could do this: get married to a man she met online, come to America, have a baby that by all the neighbors’ accounts appeared well-loved and cared for — while building pipe bombs, collecting bullets, planning to die in a murderous spree in the name of her foul false god who demands blood sacrifices. What could she have felt when she dropped the baby off? Did she turn one last time to kiss the life she brought into the world, moments before she went to snuff out 14 other lives?

A mother whose soul is so dark that she calmly, deliberately, chooses mass murder over mothering — who can explain it?

It’s called “evil,” and it tries very hard to look normal. Indeed, radical Islam exhibits all of the traits of evil.  As psychiatrist Scott Peck’s book, “People of the Lie” suggests (a terrific book that I highly recommend), evil is always convinced that it is “right” or “righteous” or “good” and works hard to maintain that appearance. It projects evil onto others (scapegoating). It is strong-willed, controlling and intolerant. And it hides it motives by confusing others with lies and “magical thinking” (think 72 virgins for Allah’s martyrs).

CRYBULLIES & NARCISSISTS: The president of Oklahoma Wesleyan blames the current campus tantrums on students who are taught to be “self-absorbed and narcissistic.” He’s on to something, according to Jean Twenge, who has reported an increase in narcissism among young people.  Narcissists have inflated conceptions of themselves and feel entitled to special privileges, while at the same time they’re quite brittle — if anyone questions their wonderfulness, they quickly take offense and turn extremely aggressive. (Remind you of anyone?)

Twenge has found the rise in narcissism to be especially notable in young women, so it may be no coincidence that the crybullies have so often been female. The drama at Yale began with highly dubious claims by women that a fraternity excluded minority women from a party because it was for “white girls only.” (The accusation keeps getting repeated despite the absence of evidence — and a flat denial from the fraternity, which has black members and says there were black women at the party.) As the Yale drama evolved into arguments about Halloween and alleged racism, Yale’s dean said that the complaints were coming mostly from women. Jonathan Haidt also found a striking gender imbalance when he was confronted by crybullies at a high school. After his speech urging schools not to protect students from uncomfortable ideas, he was fiercely attacked by the girls in the audience while the boys sat there quietly (and then went up afterwards to thank him for the speech).

UM, WHY, EXACTLY?
