I’LL BE ON THE INDEPENDENTS ON FOX BUSINESS TONIGHT IN THE 9 O’CLOCK HOUR, talking about CIA spying, government lying, and, basically the stuff in this column.

YOU KNOW, I FULLY EXPECT TO SEE STACY MCCAIN publish a book on gender theory at some point in the near future. “Perhaps you didn’t notice that she used the phrase ‘our kids,’ although Dana Sitar has no children herself, so that her use of the first-person plural implies that this feminist coffee-shop waitress is asserting her proprietary interest in your kids.”

AND THAT’S BECAUSE THE TENTH AMENDMENT HAS BEEN LARGELY IGNORED: The United State of America: Washington is expanding its power by turning state governments into instruments of federal policy.

The tug of war between the president and Congress is steadily escalating. The most recent sign of incipient institutional breakdown is House Speaker John Boehner’s suit against President Obama for rewriting laws and stepping on Congress’s turf.

But lurking in the wings is a second separation-of-powers issue, just as important, that Americans have mostly overlooked—the separation between federal and state government. In many areas, that vital divide is fast disappearing, owing to a relentless expansion of federal power. And both political parties share the blame.

Programs like Medicaid, Common Core, the Clean Air Act, and the federal highway system enjoy popular support because they appear to allow the federal government to accomplish things all Americans want, at least in the short run. But those programs often turn states into mere field offices of the federal government, often against their will, in turn creating a host of structural problems.

Federal officials exert enormous influence over state budgets and state regulators, often behind the scenes. The new federalism replaces the “laboratories of democracy” with heavy-handed, once-size-fits-all solutions. Uniformity wins but diversity loses, along with innovation, local choice, and the Constitution’s necessary limits on government power.

Indeed it does.

MORE JOBS LOST THROUGH REGULATION: Porn production plummets in L.A. “The number of permits issued for adult productions has plummeted since November 2012, when voters approved a measure that requires performers to wear condoms on sets. . . . ‘It is a cause for concern that people who are manning the cameras, lights and other things on those sets are not working anymore … it’s not helpful to have another segment of the industry leave the region.’” Who could have seen this coming?

BUT THE WORLD SEEMS MORE UPSET ABOUT JEWS WHO AREN’T EXTERMINATING PEOPLE: Michael Totten: ISIS Exterminating Minorities In Iraq.

Plus, why I like the Kurds: “Kurds don’t get upset about religion. We aren’t like Arabs. We believe in arguments based on reason, not emotion. If people don’t agree with me about something, I’m not going to get mad at them. We will just have different opinions.” Can we send them more guns?

NAOMI SCHAEFER RILEY: Scenes From The Feminist Implosion. “It’s no wonder the hashtag #WomenAgainstFeminism has become so popular. It’s not because, as one Daily Beast column argues, these women ‘don’t understand feminism.’ It’s because they understand feminism and so know that this ideology has nothing to do with their lives. . . . We want you to see women as victims of everyone and everything — even though feminism is supposed to be empowering. We want you to express your true nature as women — except we’d prefer you throw the men and children in your lives under the bus. All of this doublespeak may simply be too much for the younger generation. And so, to the feminist leaders out there, I can only say: Keep talking, ladies. Fifty-two percent of their base voted against that happening, yet the D.C. GOP still doesn’t seem to care. That’s not victory, it’s a defeat waiting to happen just down the line.”

POLITICS: The Rise of the “Young Outsiders.” “An overwhelming majority of these Millennial-aged voters actually think government aid does more harm than good, that the government is at its max when it comes to helping the poor, and – get this – that people on the government dole have it way too easy.”
