IN BRITAIN,THE CORRUPTION RUNS DEEP: Rotherham Whistleblower Reportedly Threatened by Police, ‘Feared for Life.’ “Further inquiry into events in Rotherham is revealing the degree of corruption that facilitated two decades of child sexual exploitation in the central England town. A Home Office researcher who says her report into the widespread abuse in the early 2000s was suppressed now says, according to the Sheffield Telegraph, that she was also the victim of threats from police officers aware of her investigation.” I’d like to see the officers’ names publicized.
JOHN HINDERAKER: Sessions v. Zuckerberg, a Knockout. “Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has emerged as the face of Silicon Valley’s support for amnesty and expanded immigration quotas, notwithstanding persistently high unemployment and underemployment among America’s STEM graduates. So on the Senate floor, Sessions took on Zuckerberg in old-fashioned, populist style. Sit back and enjoy this video of Sessions in action; I score it as a TKO. But be sure to listen to the end, because it isn’t just a populist demolition. In the last minute or so of the video, in a peroration that is both moving and profound, Sessions reminds his fellow Senators of the social contract between Americans and their government, and calls on Senators and other government officials to return the loyalty of the American people.”

THOUGHTS ON BEYONCE AND FEMINISM.
21ST CENTURY RELATIONSHIPS: HETEROSEXUAL SAME-SEX MARRIAGE angers gay rights activists who say it “trivializes marriage.”
AMY OTTO: Stop Perpetually Flogging The Bridget Jones Voter. “The problem is that despite the incoherence of the message, Democrats demonstrate effort and time crafting messages to court single female voters. Meanwhile, the Right has constructed well-meaning bubbles about what’s best for women. While getting married and having kids is the best choice I ever made, there is a perception gap on the Right that these things are easily obtained.”
Very much worth reading. Maybe if someone buys a women’s magazine, they should talk to Amy about editing it.
Plus, some of Amy’s comments remind me of this from InstaPundit reader Madhu Dahiya a decade ago:
I think the problem with heterosexual marriage is, uh, heterosexuals. If the opponents of gay marriage were serious about the challenges to straight marriage, then there would be tax credits for Match.com and Eight Minute Dating (and marriage counseling). There would be no mention of sports and steroids in any state of the union speech. Instead, the president would give a stern talking to those men, and women (and you know who you are), WHO NEVER CALL YOU BACK. I mean, you want to move the numbers towards the Republicans in the single, over thirty over educated female-type bracket? Well, there you go. There’s an issue that should poll just nicely, thank you very much.
It’s worth a try!
HAPPY HOWL-O-WEEN?
GUN CLUBS AND RIFLE TEAMS USED TO BE COMMON AT HIGH SCHOOLS, EVEN IN NEW YORK CITY. MAYBE WE’RE RETURNING TO NORMAL IN AMERICA. Gun Clubs Popping Up At Area High Schools.
WHY DON’T MORE MEN GO INTO TEACHING? Omitted is the likelihood that many men who might consider teaching are afraid they’ll be regarded as potential sex predators — although, one must say, women teachers have done just fine at that themselves.
But maybe we need some Title IX style legislation to overcome these gender barriers.
JUNIOR VARSITY DIPLOMACY: War/Not War?: Is John Kerry as Stupid as He Sounds? You Be the Judge.
Related thoughts from Tom Maguire: “The Times noted that our Arab allies seem a bit tentative. No kidding – Obama and Kerry were wrong about the surge in ’07, wrong about the Iraqi troop withdrawals in ’11, wrong to walk away from post-Qadaffi Libya in ’11, wrong not to arm the moderate Syrian rebels in ’11, wrong to draw a faux red line in 2013, and now no one will get behind him? The headless chickens have come home to roost.”

THE POST-CONSTITUTIONAL PRESIDENCY turns inward.
SCIENCE: Woman in her twenties discovers that she was born without a cerebellum. “There have only been nine other such cases in the world and most died early on, so the fact that this woman has made it to adulthood – and is doing reasonably well — is pretty astounding. Doctors will undoubtedly want to study her further to find out how her brain adapted to the exclusion so quickly (it’s likely that the cortex took over for the missing mass).”
OUR JUNIOR-VARSITY ADMINISTRATION: James Foley’s mother ‘appalled’ by U.S. government handling of case. “I think our efforts to get Jim freed were an annoyance.”
UPDATE: Hmm. I was thinking about this and remembered a comment from InstaPundit reader Shivan V. Mahendrarajah almost ten years ago: “I live in NYC: limousine liberals hated Guiliani publicly, but voted for his reelection because they trusted him to keep them safe. I think the same phenomenon exists with GWB, and he reminded voters why they should vote for him.” The flipside of that is, I think Obama is reminding people why they shouldn’t have voted for him. . . .

COMMUNISM KILLS: Germany: Life Expectancy Has Risen in East Since Reunification, Study Says. “Reunification added 6.2 years to the life of men in the former East and 4.2 years to their female counterparts, according to calculations by Tobias Vogt, of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, that were published ahead of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall this year. If East Germany still existed, boys born in 2011 could expect to live to the age of 70.9, while girls would have a life expectancy of 78.7 years, the study showed. But in a reunified Germany boys born in 2011 were forecast to live to 77.1, and girls to 82.9.”
