THE COUNTRY’S IN THE VERY BEST OF HANDS: Former HHS Cyber Security Director Convicted For Child Porn. “In addition to viewing and soliciting child pornography, reportedly asking another member of the site whether he’d share pictures of his son, he suggested meeting a fellow pedophile in person to violently rape and murder children together.”
SOUNDS LIKE PEOPLE SHOULD BE HANGING FROM LAMPPOSTS: Britain: Revealed: How fear of being seen as racist stopped social workers saving up to 1,400 children from sexual exploitation at the hands of Asian men in just one town. “In two cases, fathers had tracked down their daughters and tried to remove them from houses where they were being abused – only to be arrested themselves when police were called to the scene. . . . No council employees will face disciplinary action in a town where 1,400 children suffered sexual exploitation in a 16-year period, the local authority’s chief executive has said.”

STICK A FORK IN YOUR NEWSPAPER:
Print newspapers are going to die; at this point they’re living off coupons, on the print side, and old people, on the readership side. Newspaper circulation has fallen only a little bit among readers older than 65, but it has started low and fallen lower among the under-35 demographic. It doesn’t seem reasonable at this point to believe that those folks will ever pick up the newspaper habit. So as the readers die, and the advertising fades, the newspapers, too, will die one by one. The magazines, which already look anorexic compared with their earlier ad-stuffed selves, will undoubtedly follow.

POLL: Race Relations Were Better Under Bush.
According to one survey, not only have race relations in America worsened since 2009 when they improved greatly in the immediate wake of the election of the nation’s first African-American president, an eventuality which was to be expected, they are generally worse than in 2007 when George W. Bush (a man who we were told by figures of influence “doesn’t care about black people”) occupied the Oval Office.
The Washington Post’s Aaron Blake noted that a recent Pew Research Center poll indicates that faith among African-Americans in law enforcement to act fairly has plummeted. In 2007, only 31 percent of black respondents had “very little” faith in local police. Today, 46 percent said the same.
The survey also shows that 64 percent of African-Americans believe blacks and whites “get along very well” or “pretty well” today. In 2007, that figure was 69 percent rising to 76 percent in 2009. Pew’s latest results represent a 12 point shift backwards.

SPYING: NSA built “Google-like” interface to scan 850+ billion metadata records. “According to newly published documents, the National Security Agency has built a ‘Google-like’ search interface for its vast database of metadata, and the agency shares it with dozens of other American intelligence agencies. . . . The new search tool, called ICREACH, is described in an internal NSA presentation as a ‘large scale expansion of communications metadata shared with [intelligence community] partners.’ That same presentation shows that ICREACH has been operational since the pilot launched in May 2007. Not only is data being shared to more agencies, but there are more types of such data being shared—ICREACH searches over 850 billion records.”

IS THERE A BETTER SOLUTION FOR SURPLUS MILITARY GEAR?
UPDATE: I say let’s not give them any more until they can take better care of what they’ve got. “184 state and local police departments have been suspended from the Pentagon’s “1033 program” for missing weapons or failure to comply with other guidelines. We uncovered a pattern of missing M14 and M16 assault rifles across the country, as well as instances of missing .45-caliber pistols, shotguns and 2 cases of missing Humvee vehicles.”
