REMEMBER HOW ELECTING OBAMA WAS GOING TO MAKE ALL THE EUROPEANS LOVE US? French minister dresses down US at July 4 fete.

France’s top security official publicly dressed down the United States at the American ambassador’s July 4 garden party, denouncing alleged U.S. “espionage” of France and other countries, while the European Parliament voted to open an investigation.

Interior Minister Manuel Valls was guest of honor at the fete hosted by Ambassador Charles Rivkin Thursday. In a speech before hundreds of guests, he said that “in the name of our friendship, we owe each other honesty. We must say things clearly, directly, frankly.”

He said that President Francois Hollande’s demand for clear and precise explanations about reports of U.S. spying are justified because “such practices, if proven, do not have their place between allies and partners.”

Good thing we got rid of that dumb cowboy Bush. The Euros were always complaining about stuff he did.

SO PAYROLLS WENT UP MORE THAN EXPECTED, BUT UNEMPLOYMENT STAYED THE SAME, AND UNDEREMPLOYMENT IS SOARING. “The Unemployment Rate stayed at 7.6% despite expectations of a drop to 7.5%, although the real action was in the underemployment rate which exploded from 13.8% to 14.3%.”

“SMART DIPLOMACY:” Unhappiness In Latin America Over U.S. Interference With Bolivian President’s Flight; President Morales Threatens To Close U.S. Embassy in Bolivia. “Despite several attempts by CNN to get a response, Obama administration officials declined to comment on Bolivia’s allegations that the United States pressured European countries to deny landing rights to the Bolivian president’s plane, referring all questions to the European countries in question.”

IN OBAMA’S AMERICA EVEN THE THIRD AMENDMENT ISN’T SAFE:

– Henderson police arrested a family for refusing to let officers use their homes as lookouts for a domestic violence investigation of their neighbors, the family claims in court.

Anthony Mitchell and his parents Michael and Linda Mitchell sued the City of Henderson, its Police Chief Jutta Chambers, Officers Garret Poiner, Ronald Feola, Ramona Walls, Angela Walker, and Christopher Worley, and City of North Las Vegas and its Police Chief Joseph Chronister, in Federal Court.

Henderson, pop. 257,000, is a suburb of Las Vegas.

The Mitchell family’s claim includes Third Amendment violations, a rare claim in the United States. The Third Amendment prohibits quartering soldiers in citizens’ homes in times of peace without the consent of the owner.

“On the morning of July 10th, 2011, officers from the Henderson Police Department responded to a domestic violence call at a neighbor’s residence,” the Mitchells say in the complaint.

It continues: “At 10:45 a.m. defendant Officer Christopher Worley (HPD) contacted plaintiff Anthony Mitchell via his telephone. Worley told plaintiff that police needed to occupy his home in order to gain a ‘tactical advantage’ against the occupant of the neighboring house. Anthony Mitchell told the officer that he did not want to become involved and that he did not want police to enter his residence. Although Worley continued to insist that plaintiff should leave his residence, plaintiff clearly explained that he did not intend to leave his home or to allow police to occupy his home. Worley then ended the phone call.

Mitchell claims that defendant officers, including Cawthorn and Worley and Sgt. Michael Waller then “conspired among themselves to force Anthony Mitchell out of his residence and to occupy his home for their own use.”

To be fair, though, our political class seems increasingly enthusiastic about the Fifth Amendment.

Plus, what is it about cops and dogs?

He says they also hurt his pet dog for no reason whatsoever: “Plaintiff Anthony Mitchell’s pet, a female dog named ‘Sam,’ was cowering in the corner when officers smashed through the front door. Although the terrified animal posed no threat to officers, they gratuitously shot it with one or more pepperball rounds. The panicked animal howled in fear and pain and fled from the residence. Sam was subsequently left trapped outside in a fenced alcove without access to water, food, or shelter from the sun for much of the day, while temperatures outside soared to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.”

Anthony and his parents live in separate houses, close to one another on the same street. He claims that police treated his parents the same way.

Sad.

MICKEY KAUS: Obama Will Ignore E-Verify, Too. “Obama has unilaterally decided to suspend Obamacare’s mandate for employers after receiving business complaints. Don’t you think he’ll also decide to suspend the Senate Gang of 8′s mandate that employers use ‘E-Verify’ (to screen new employees for legal status) when he receives similar business complaints?”

SPENGLER: “Starvation is the unstated subject of yesterday’s military coup. For the past several months the bottom half of Egypt’s population has had little to eat except government-subsidized bread, and now the bread supply is threatened by a shortage of imported wheat. Despite $8 billion of aid from Qatar and smidgens from Libya, Turkey and others, Egypt is struggling to meet a financing gap of perhaps $20 billion a year, made worse by the collapse of its major cash earner, the tourist industry.”
