NEWS YOU CAN USE: 6 Things You Think Add Value To Your Home – But Really Don’t.
MY USA TODAY COLUMN FOR TOMORROW: LOOKING AHEAD TO A BRIGHT FUTURE.
It’s on Jim Bennett and Michael Lotus’s America 3.0.
SITTING ACROSS from the IRS.
COMPARED TO THE ALTERNATIVE, THIS SOUNDS PRETTY GOOD: Expecting A Do-Nothing Congress.
HOW THE PRESS CAN STRIKE BACK: Just start covering Obama — on everything — the way you would if he were a Republican President. #Toast.
DANA LOESCH: On The IRS Protests Tomorrow. Just keep an eye out for infiltrators.
NANOTECHNOLOGY UPDATE: Harvard researchers grow garden of nanoscience delights.
FOX NEWS RESPONDS:
We are outraged to learn today that James Rosen was named a criminal co-conspirator for simply doing his job as a reporter. In fact, it is downright chilling. We will unequivocally defend his right to operate as a member of what up until now has always been a free press.
Ouch.
UPDATE: Reader Ken Lightcap writes:
Answer to the question: on her morning news show, “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” I just hear her a few minutes ago refer to, “Our colleague over at the State Department, James Rosen, who reports for Fox News.” They seriously over-reached.
Yeah, I’ve noticed Fox getting sudden new respect as a news organization.
LOOKING INSIDE A TINY NUCLEAR REACTOR: “This year Westinghouse will begin fuel tests for its Small Modular Reactor (SMR), a downsized system that puts out 225 megawatts.” If you really care about reducing C02 emissions, you’ll get behind things like this in a big way.
UNINTENTIONALLY, I’M SURE: Slate: How Lazy CNN Reporting Made Rand Paul Look Like a Conspiracy Theorist. To be fair, a lot of things that looked like crazy conspiracy theory a while back — like, say, two weeks ago — turn out to be true.
Did I say “two weeks ago?” How about “yesterday?”
TWEET OF THE DAY: #Fact: DOJ had more surveillance of @JamesRosenFNC than Tsarnaev brothers.
UPDATE: Bombshell: Not just Rosen; A livid Megyn Kelly reports more at Fox News targeted by DOJ.
ANOTHER UPDATE: “These abuses of the First Amendment wouldn’t be happening if we had a constitutional law professor as president.”
I’M SENSING A PATTERN HERE AMONG DEMOCRATIC MACHINE POLS: Cuomo Plays Hardball Against Reporter, Leaks Email.
LAWPROF WILLIAM JACOBSON ON THE ROSEN SEARCH WARRANT: How much has DOJ overreached? Other news organizations might have to defend Fox News. I have to say, this is the first time I’ve seen an application for a search warrant argue legislative history as a basis. But I’ve led a sheltered life.
WELL, FIRST THEY CAME FOR FILMMAKER NAKOULA, AND THE A.P. DIDN’T DO ANYTHING: Shredding the Constitution: Obama’s attack on the media. “The president hasn’t attempted to distance himself from the Associated Press snooping campaign. To the contrary, he offered ‘no apologies.’ To be blunt, he approves the most invasive breach of the First Amendment against any news organization in the history of the republic. No president has tried this and for good reason. We now have yet another media abuse story, in a way much more severe. The Post breaks the story that the Obama administration indulged in excruciatingly invasive spying on James Rosen of Fox News and, in an unprecedented move, asserted that his newsgathering is criminal.”
I, on the other hand, was ahead of the curve on this kind of stuff. See my 2009 Wall Street Journal piece, Media Criticism, Chicago Style.
ECONTALK: Richard Epstein on the Constitution.
MICHAEL TOTTEN: How To Become A Dictator. “What you should do, is establish the idea that you’re indispensable, that you’re irreplaceable, that beyond you is the abyss of sectarian civil war, terrorism, ethnic cleansing, and the breakup of the state. Create problems that only you can resolve. That’s the mind game Bashar al-Assad is playing with you. As long as you can’t see beyond him, he’s safe.”
IN THE MAIL: From Jack Levin (with a preface by his son, Mark Levin), George Washington: The Crossing.
WASHINGTON POST: “A Bushel of Pinocchios” for IRS’s Lois Lerner.
WELL, IT’S NOT LIKE THEY’D PUT A FILMMAKER IN JAIL ON TRUMPED-UP CHARGES OR ANYTHING: Obama Administration Spied On Fox News’ James Rosen.
TAXPROF: IRS Scandal Roundup, Day 11.
