ARE YOU A DOWNSIDER? “Downsiders are not paranoid. Downsiders simply refuse to be bewildered, helpless or clueless. Downsiders are not excited about the downside, they just want to be cleareyed if such things happen.”

OBAMA GETS READY TO RUMBLE:

‘OH NO! WE CAN’T LET ROMNEY WIN, HE’LL LET LOBBYISTS IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!’ At the Washington Examiner, Tim Carney writes:

If Romney wins, will lobbyists defile the White House that Obama has kept so clean and so pure? That’s what Politico suggests with this piece today headlined “Lobbyists ready for a comeback under Romney.”

President Barack Obama’s gone further than any president to keep lobbyists out of the White House — even signing executive orders to do it.

In crafting and signing those executive orders, I wonder if Obama relied on the help of…

Read the whole thing. As Ace quips, “What Tim Carney does to Politico here is only legal because of Lawrence v. Texas. — It may be legal, but that doesn’t mean it’s fit for family viewing.”

HONEY BOO BOO THROWS SUPPORT TO OBAMA:  Yep, it’s official.  The nation’s favorite little redneck pageant queen supports Obama (if she could vote, of course– but then again, why discriminate against her just because she’s young– how ageist).

This is ever-so-slightly ironic:  Rednecks for Obama.  Guess they didn’t hear Obama’s nasty, condescending comment about clinging to guns, religion and harboring “antipathy toward people who aren’t like them.”   Oh, silly  me:  They probably missed this because they get their news from NBC/MSNBC or other lamestream media outlets.

DIRTY TRICKS: The Democratic National Committee puts up a site designed to trick you into thinking it’s Romney’s.

UPDATE: From the comments:

It’s astonishing to me that the main theme of the Obama campaign in recent months has been to call Romney a liar. I mean, really?

This is coming from the guy that broke a promise to cut deficit in half by the end of his first term. This is coming from the guy
who broke promise to broadcast the health care negotiations on C-SPAN. This is coming from a guy who broke promise to reduce earmarks to 1994 levels. The guy who broke promise to allow five days of public comment before signing bills… repeatedly. This is the guy who is still saying that he wasn’t aware of the situation on the ground and the embassy on September 11. This is the guy that insists that nobody high up in his administration was at fault over the whole Fast and Furious debacle. This is the guy who broke a promise he made to close Guantánamo Bay.

Indeed.

COULD THE MEDIA TURN ON OBAMA? Steve Hayward of Power Line spots Howard Fineman, formerly of Newsweek, now with the Huffington Post, writing the first (albeit tentative) MSM pre-postmortem for Mr. Obama.

Eschew the aura of the penumbra of the appearance of cockiness, however.

UPDATE: “‘Morning Joe’ panel second-guessing Obama’s shot at re-election [VIDEO].”

I bet that’s going to lead to some ugly emails from the White House to MSNBC.

DUMBEST FAILED MEDIA HIT SO FAR? “Dishgate.”

RICE THROWS INTEL UNDER THE BUS:  UN Ambassador Susan Rice is now backwalking her inane insistence that the Libyan/Egyptian and other attacks on 9/11 were spontaneous outbursts of anger about a stupid YouTube video.  Apparently, the official line is now that “Intel made me do it”:

In an interview Monday with The Washington Post, Rice said she relied on daily updates from intelligence agencies in the days before her television appearances and on a set of talking points prepared for senior members of the administration by intelligence officials. She said there was no attempt to pick and choose among possible explanations for the attack.

“Absolutely not,” Rice said. “It was purely a function of what was provided to us” and had been given to Congress the day before.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave . . . .

A THOUGHTFUL AND SIGNIFICANT CRITIQUE OF MODERN LIBERALISM: The Washington Post is not normally where you expect statements like this: “Green energy is not cost-competitive with traditional energy and won’t be for years. So it can’t work without either taxpayer subsidies, much of which accrue to ‘entrepreneurs’ such as Gore, or higher prices for fossil energy — the brunt of which is borne by people of modest means.” Editorial writer Charles Lane is the author. Liberals would do well to follow his example.

THE OBAMA-FAVORED BATTERY MAKER A123 DECLARES BANKRUPTCY AFTER GIVING EXECUTIVES BONUSES: “In sum: The president of the United States, Michigan’s former governor, the state’s two U.S. senators and the U.S. Secretary of Energy promised thousands of jobs from a company that in a mere two years went bankrupt. Despite a bankruptcy or buyout predicted by outside observers, the company continued to reward its top executives while laying off most of its workforce.”

CAPTAIN’S JOURNAL: What Romney Should Say About Guns In The Debates. “You see, it isn’t the caliber of the weapon that one is holding that’s the problem. It’s the caliber of the one holding the weapon.”
