STIFFED: Dem House Members Failing to Pony Up Dues For Campaign PAC. “Facing an uphill battle to retake control of the House from Republicans, about one third of Democratic House members are refusing to pay any dues to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Another 109 members have made only partial payments.”

A HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE CONNECTION TO THE AURORA SHOOTINGS? Dave Price writes:
Some have raised the question how a PhD student on unemployment could afford what appears to be at least $10K – $20K of guns and explosives. When I was in school, the only way I could have done that would have been: student loans.
In some cases, it’s possible (not legal, but possible) even to get the loans and drop out, and keep the money.
Something to keep an eye on, as the MSM is probably not going to play up this angle.
Good question. I haven’t heard that he was wealthy, but on the other hand, he may not have had many other things to spend his money on.
HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: The Amazon Career Choice Program. “The Amazon Career Choice Program will pre-pay 95% of tuition and associated fees at accredited schools for courses that lead to technical and vocational certifications or associate’s degrees in eligible in-demand fields, such as Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical and Electrical Trades, Healthcare, Construction, Transportation, and Accounting. Specific examples include aircraft mechanics, computer-aided design, machine tool technology, medical laboratory science, dental hygiene, and nursing. This program focuses on technical and vocation training programs and does not apply to Bachelors or Master’s degree coursework.”
Plus, from the Jeff Bezos announcement: “Unlike traditional tuition reimbursement programs, we exclusively fund education only in areas that are well-paying and in high demand according to sources like the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and we fund those areas regardless of whether those skills are relevant to a career at Amazon.”
Now where could he have gotten an idea like that?
WANT MORE VIOLENT CRIME AGAINST CITIZENS? Then ban guns like Australia did. “So, if the USA follows Australia’s lead in banning guns, it should expect a 42 percent increase in violent crime, a higher percentage of murders committed with a gun, and three times more rape.”
Plus: “The International Crime Victims Survey, conducted by Leiden University in Holland, found that England and Wales ranked second overall in violent crime among industrialized nations. Twenty-six percent of English citizens — roughly one-quarter of the population — have been victimized by violent crime. Australia led the list with more than 30 percent of its population victimized. The United States didn’t even make the ‘top 10’ list of industrialized nations whose citizens were victimized by crime.”
ENEMIES LISTS: From Nixon to Obama. “For those of use who lived through Watergate, it must be at least slightly surprising how little attention Strassel’s columns have drawn. . . . The mainstream media are of course missing in action. An election is looming and if it weren’t for double standards they wouldn’t have any at all.”
Yeah, if you wonder how Watergate would have played out under a Democratic President, well, wonder no more.
WASHINGTON EXAMINER: Liberal pundits always rush to blame the Tea Party.
Whenever a new cause or movement is born, and a large number of people feel passionate about it, there’s always the danger that it will inspire someone — perhaps just a lone nut, or perhaps a group of them — to destroy human life in its name. This is true even of the most legitimate, mainstream movements, which can suffer unjustly by the actions of a rogue sympathizer.
Someday this may happen to the Tea Party movement. So far it hasn’t, because there has been no Tea Party violence. The only victims of Tea Party “extremism” are politicians who lost their positions in peaceful elections. One could be forgiven for not knowing this, given the extreme bias with which some in the liberal media treat the Tea Party.
Moments after the suspect’s name became known in Friday’s theater massacre in Colorado, Brian Ross of ABC News reported to a national audience that someone by the same name had signed on to a Tea Party website in 2011. James Holmes — the name of the alleged shooter — is a very common name, shared by at least 2,900 Americans, according to the website HowManyofMe.com. And as it turns out, James Holmes of the Tea Party is a Hispanic man, not related to the suspect and more than twice his age.
Ross had to issue an apology, but it’s easy to see why he found the story irresistible. Here was a possible connection that bore out all of his worst prejudices — groundless prejudices that many others share.
In February 2010, a man named Joseph Stack committed suicide by flying his small airplane into an IRS building in Austin, Texas. New York Magazine, after reading his online suicide note, immediately declared that “a lot of his rhetoric could have been taken directly from a handwritten sign at a tea party rally.” The Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart added that “his alienation is similar to that we’re hearing from the extreme elements of the Tea Party movement.” Neither mentioned that Stack had approvingly quoted “The Communist Manifesto” and denounced capitalism in his last message to the world. That may be a relevant detail if you’re trying to blame his crime on a movement that believes the opposite.
Months later, right after the famous attempt to bomb Times Square, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg suggested it had been carried out by someone “with a political agenda who doesn’t like the health care bill or something.” The would-be bomber, a Pakistani immigrant, later said in court: “If I’m given a thousand lives, I will sacrifice them all for the life of Allah.”
The following January, a shooter in Tucson wounded Rep. Gabby Giffords, D-Ariz., and killed six others. In all his wisdom, Paul Krugman leaped to judgment immediately: “We don’t have proof yet that this was political, but the odds are that it was.” He insinuated on his New York Times blog that Tea Party activists were back to finish the job after Giffords survived the 2010 election sweep. In fact, the killer was a deranged loner with no coherent political ideology, and no connection to the Tea Party.
All that has happened since the Tea Party began — and all that hasn’t happened — undermines the credibility of Krugman, Ross, Capehart, and other pundits who carelessly associate it with violence.

LEGAL MARKETS: Lawyers Carve Out “Divorce For Men” Niche. “Divorce lawyers seeking an edge in a crowded legal marketplace have found a niche they say pays off in good times and bad: appealing to men who fear getting a bad deal.” Plus, social change:
Some states are moving to cap spousal support so that recipients, who are often but not always women, no longer get lifetime alimony. Mothers are increasingly paying child support, according to a recent survey of members of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. And as women’s earnings equal or, in some cases, outpace those of their partners, some ex-wives even end up paying alimony.
“I always see judges wincing when they order women to pay alimony,” said Mr. Altshuler. “But it’s a trend…. Now we have so many families where both parents are working, the whole ‘man takes care of the woman’ syndrome has diminished.”
Wincing? Really? How sexist. Also:
Despite those changes, some lawyers who specialize in representing men say their clients still encounter discrimination from judges who are reluctant to view men as equally capable parents or deserving of spousal support. Joseph Cordell, the co-founder of Cordell & Cordell, said women may also resort to a tactic few men employ: accusations of domestic violence. “It could be as little as a shove or a raised voice,” said Mr. Cordell. “The cascade of events triggered by that affect property distribution, custody, attorney fees.”
Other firms focus on educating clients on the rights they already have but may not be exercising.
Men will be employing this tactic soon.
