HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE — BURSTING? State and Local Spending on Higher Education Reached a New 25-Year Low in 2011. Tuition revenue per student, meanwhile, reached an all-time high as schools made up the difference by raising costs to students.
HOW TO MAKE TWENTYSOMETHINGS happy. From the comments: “You know, that sounds great. A generation of world-savers. But not everyone can save the world. Some people *have* to be the working stiffs that help the world go round.”
On the other hand, this sounds kinda like my life: “I want to sit in my undies on the couch, drinking a smoothie, tapping out brilliant words on my Mac AND getting paid for it.” Well, tapping out words on my Mac, anyway.

Interesting that the Dems thought they had a big winner on this whole “war against women” thing, but it’s the people on the right who are gleefully keeping it alive now . . . .
Plus, how will Obama explain Cee Lo Green to Sasha and Malia?
ON THAT OBAMA BOTCHED-NEGOTIATION STORY, Tom Maguire emails to tell me I’m smarter than I realize:
Last summer you linked to Keith Hennessey’s next-day rebuttal of Obama’s claim that Republicans were to blame for the debt talk collapse. He told the same story the WaPo has here.
To be fair, the Times and WaPo caught up with the gist a few days later (Times readers had to read deep and between the lines), and this WaPo piece adds lots of detail.
I’m just not smart enough to remember that without reader assistance. Oh, well, that’s why I have readers. Related: Liz Peek: Obama Loses Credibility Over Debt Deal.
FROM REPLACEMENT PARTS to upgrades. “This is a tremendously encouraging story, and it does not occur in a vacuum.”
JAPAN WARNS of Chinese threat. “Tensions are rising between the two largest economies and most powerful military forces in Asia: Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshiko Noda is using some very un-Japanese language (direct, forceful, naming names) to address what he sees as a growing threat.”
THE COUNTRY’S IN THE VERY BEST OF HANDS: Inspector General: IRS Failed to Adequately Screen 77% of New Hires.

WELL, THEY GIVE THOSE PRIZES OUT TO JUST ABOUT ANYBODY NOWADAYS: Nobel peace prize winner defends law criminalising homosexuality in Liberia. I love the picture of Tony Blair discomfited by the impact of multiculturalism. . . . .
IN THE MAIL: From Sanford Levinson, Framed: America’s 51 Constitutions and the Crisis of Governance. Excellent book: As you’ll see if you follow the link, I blurbed it.
AT LEAST WE WON’T HAVE TO LISTEN TO THEIR ANNOYING COMMERCIALS ANYMORE: TaxMasters files for bankruptcy.
MICKEY KAUS: Tim Noah Buries The Lede: “Wait. You mean that social-democratic, union-heavy, solidaristic Germany has worse income inequality, before taxes and transfers, than the cowboy capitalistic U.S., with its large underclass and out-of-control Wall Street greedheads? Don’t tell the narrative. . . . Maybe the stats Noah relies don’t capture what people like him think is important, in which case they shouldn’t be relied on so often. Or maybe the narrative needs some rejiggering.” Nonsense. Facts are adjusted to fit the narrative, not the other way around.
