THE ONE PERCENT: Obama Biggest Donors: Tax-Free Harvard , University of California, and Stanford. Technically, of course, it’s not those institutions, but the faculty and staff at those institutions. Wonder if hearing that Joe Biden thinks their salaries should be lower will soften their support?
Note that going by this chart, these institutions are among the biggest donors, but they are not the biggest donors. Well, the University of California is #1, but Harvard is behind Goldman, Sachs. And Stanford is behind J.P. Morgan Chase, Citigroup, and a few others.
UPDATE: Reader Kevin Greene writes:
Hey … doesn’t Harvard have $35 billion tax-free dollars they’re hoarding in their endowment? Why shouldn’t Republicans … you know … redistribute that money to more worthy people? After all, this money is being laundered to Democrats via enormous unjustified salaries (Joe Biden’s characterization, not mine) and those salaries then fund Democrat political candidates. Pretty transparent, no?
Why should Republicans allow that to continue when there are hungry, homeless people out there?
Like Obama says, everybody does better when you just spread the wealth around a little.

THEODORE DALRYMPLE ON the European Crack-Up. “The debt crisis has revealed differences in national character of precisely the kind that make any closer union both difficult and dangerous. Indeed, the very attempt to force a union is at the root of the crisis, for if Greece and Ireland, to take two countries at the geographical extremes of the continent, had not been able to borrow in euros under the false supposition that eurozone membership effectively guaranteed their sovereign debts, it is unlikely that they would have wound up in their current straits. After all, lenders might have taken more care if their debts were being paid in drachmas or Irish pounds, which the Greeks and Irish could have inflated to their hearts’ content. The Irish and the Greek situations are, however, significantly different, and together they constitute a school for Euroskeptics. . . . The alternative to sharing the debts seems to be the breakup of the euro. This might turn recession into prolonged slump, with the countries expelled from the eurozone forced into a default catastrophic for the banking system. I get dizzy just thinking about the bank account in which I hold euros: in the event of a breakup, will it be denominated in drachmas or deutschmarks, and who will decide? Like everyone else, I would prefer deutschmarks, a preference that will drive up the price of the currency to the point that German exports, no matter how high their quality, will be too expensive to buy. No wonder German chancellor Angela Merkel appears indecisive: like every politician, she wants a painless solution to a problem.”

BOB KRUMM ON THE CHAOS ABOARD THE COSTA CONCORDIA: It’s an Italian thing, you wouldn’t understand. Plus a larger lesson: “On the other hand, the Concordia gives witness to the unbridgeable divide in Europe. The Continent is two cultures separated by a common currency. Economic chaos is the inevitable result. And women and children may end up being the first thrown overboard.”

OUR NEIGHBORS ARE UNHAPPY: Canada not ‘giant national park’ for U.S., Harper says.
The environmental review process is for Canadians, and not to be used by Americans who want Canada to be “one giant national park” for North America, Prime Minister Stephen Harper says.
In an exclusive interview Monday with CBC chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge, Harper said it’s valid to have a discussion over how to strike a balance between jobs and environmental protection, but it’s one that should be left to Canadians.
“It’s one thing in terms of whether Canadians, you know, want jobs, to what degree Canadians want environmental protection. These are all valid questions,” Harper said.
“But just because certain people in the United States would like to see Canada be one giant national park for the northern half of North America, I don’t think that’s part of what our review process is all about.”
Funny, the usual suspects aren’t denouncing “Yankee imperialism” here.
THE HILL: Internet piracy bill’s future uncertain as House returns. “The future of the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) has grown murky as House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has all but declared the bill dead, but the measure’s sponsor, Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas), has vowed to push ahead.”
Say this much for Lamar Smith: When he’s bought, he stays bought.

FUNNY, I DIDN’T REALIZE THAT JIMMY CARTER WAS BLACK. I stand corrected. But really, you don’t need to strain yourself this much. We understand that everyone who criticizes Obama for anything is racist by definition. Just leave it at that and save yourself the trouble. But I have to say, this from Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher may be the lamest effort yet. I hate to reward such trolling with traffic, but sometimes it has to be pointed out. You wrote about Instalanches, Tommy. Enjoy this one.
UPDATE: From the comments:
Urbandictionary.com has five different definitions for, “Liver lips.”
Not one of those definitions has any reference of any kind to any race.
Of course not. Nobody ever thought it did, before. But then, Tommy Christopher isn’t exactly reliable as a reporter.

J. CHRISTIAN ADAMS: Leftists Go Wild Over Dana Loesch. They picked a dumb issue to go after her on. Watch the polls on this one. Besides, when the kinds of folks who favored a “screw ’em” response to the murder of Americans in Fallujah start pulling their “have you no decency?” routine, it rings kind of hollow, since it’s long since been clear that they have none themselves.
