LESSONS OF THE LIBYAN WAR. “This military adventure has set a precedent we may not want to repeat.”

CALIFORNIA GOES AFTER RAVERS. “Can you ban a style of music? California Assemblywoman Fiona Ma learned the hard way that doing so might not be so easy when she tried to ban electronic rave music. . . . Despite the inability to ban rave music outright, Ma was able to squelch aspects of rave culture like LED gloves and pacifiers by keeping the pressure on event organizers with Assembly Bill 74 (formerly the ‘Anti-Raves Act’ ), which became law on Oct. 9, 2011 when CA Governor Jerry Brown signed it.”
Message to Fiona and Jerry: When you’re following in the footsteps of Slow Joe Biden — years later — you’re clearly on the wrong path.
Message to California voters: Hey, good thing you voted in Democrats like Ma and Brown, or you might have faced some of that intrusive social legislation you’re always worried about Republicans passing. . . .

MORE BAD STAFF WORK AT THE WHITE HOUSE: Maybe That’s Why He’s Unemployed:
Does the White House just not vet these people?
The Obama Administration wanted to show the President in a blue collar setting, so they put him at a table with several bottles of Budweiser and some unemployed workers. Note that the President had a Budweiser in front of him, but wisely opted for a Guiness.
In any event, one of the unemployed workers is a guy named Mark McKim. Turns out Mr. McKim was arrested in 2006 for DUI and possession of drugs. In 2007, he was arrested for violating probation.
There might be a reason other than the GOP for Mr. McKim’s unemployment.
This kind of thing keeps happening.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: 180 Private Colleges Fail Education Dept.’s Latest Financial-Responsibility Test. “A total of 150 private nonprofit colleges failed the U.S. Department of Education’s most recent financial-responsibility test, which covers the 2010 fiscal year, according to data released by the department on Wednesday. More than half of them scored so low that they will be required to post letters of credit to remain eligible to participate in the federal student-aid programs. The number of failing nonprofit colleges is about the same as in 2009. Among for-profit colleges, 30 failed the test in 2010, seven fewer than in the previous year.”
MY QUESTION: Why is the Department of Homeland Security investigating “child-sex predators”? What does that have to do with terrorism? Sounds more like they’re after favorable headlines.
UPDATE: A reader emails: “You question why the Department of Homeland Security investigates child-sex predators. As you probably know, the investigative arm of the former U.S. Customs Service formed the backbone of what is now U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Since the vast majority of child porn is produced overseas, the U.S. Customs Service and now ICE are the lead agency when it comes child porn investigations because of the border nexus. It’s been this way for decades, so this is nothing new.” Yeah, but this wasn’t a child porn investigation, it was a sex tourism sting.
PROF. JACOBSON: Obama Fundraising Fail: “Obama is nowhere near on track to raise the $1 billion he wants for his campaign. Obama’s $42 million haul is less than the $50 million George W. Bush raised in the third quarter of 2003, the comparable time period.”
JESSE JACKSON, JR.: Obama should ‘declare a national emergency,’ add jobs with ‘extra-constitutional’ action. And treat opponents of his jobs act like Confederate Rebels. Two thoughts; (1) He should resign for this statement, which constitutes an abnegation of his oath of office; and (2) Just a reminder — those Confederate Rebels were Democrats, mostly. Trouble with item (1) is that if contempt for the Constitution were grounds for leaving Congress, we’d hardly have a Congress. But still . . . A pathetic example of today’s pathetic political class.

UPDATE: Reader Todd Muldrew emails: “As several commenters note, the AP doesn’t say that the crews were playing games. Just that it’s the type of malware that is used to steal log-in info. It could easily have said ‘games like World of Warcraft.'” Here’s the full AP story.
GEORGE WILL: Wishing A Long Life To The Occupy Wall Street Protests. “The Tea Party’s splendid successes, which have altered the nation’s political vocabulary and agenda, have inspired a countermovement — Occupy Wall Street. Conservatives should rejoice and wish for it long life, abundant publicity and sufficient organization to endorse congressional candidates deemed worthy. All Democrats eager for OWS’ imprimatur, step forward. In scale, OWS’ demonstrations-cum-encampments are to Tea Party events as Pittsburg, Kan., is to Pittsburgh, Pa. So far, probably fewer people have participated in all of them combined than attended just one Tea Party rally, that of Sept. 12, 2009, on the Washington Mall. In comportment, OWS is to the Tea Party as Lady Gaga is to Lord Chesterfield: Blocking the Brooklyn Bridge was not persuasion modeled on Tea Party tactics. Still, OWS’ defenders correctly say it represents progressivism’s spirit and intellect.”
Ouch.
THEN WHAT IS IT ABOUT? Rahm Emanuel On Solyndra: It’s Not About Warning Signs.
Funny, Former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel just can’t remember a darn thing about White House involvement in the $535 Department of Energy loan to bankrupt solar company Solyndra.
In an interview with Chicago radio station WLSAM on Tuesday, now-Chicago Mayor Emanuel said that, while he can’t remember anything about Solyndra because he’s so terribly focused on being mayor of Chicago, the investment had nothing to do with “warning signs.”
Emanuel originally dodged questions about Solyndra when asked by WSLAM about it several weeks ago, saying, “I don’t actually remember that or know about it.”
However, emails disclosed by the White House show pressure on the Department of Energy and the Office of Management and Budget to approve the loan.
“Ron said this morning that the POTUS definitely wants to do this (or Rahm definitely wants the POTUS to do this?),” one White House staffer told an Obama scheduler in August 2009, referring to former Chief of Staff to the Vice President Ron Klain.
When a reporter asked if the emails had perhaps jogged Emanuel’s memory, the former White House Chief of Staff said, “No, because I’m focused on exactly what I need to do here in the city of Chicago.”
Sounds like Emanuel’s exhibiting warning signs of Alzheimer’s. Conveniently.
UPDATE: A reader emails: “It’s not Alzheimer’s, as John Kass puts it- it’s ‘Fedheimer’s’ – the inability to recall details when in the presence of federal investigators.” I hear that’s quite common in Chicago.
THE PRINCETON REVIEW’S best law schools. With a caveat that seems kinda major: “Unfortunately, the Princeton Review did not release the response rate per school, so it is impossible to determine how the rankings are affected by each school’s representation among the respondents.”

JAMES TARANTO: INK-STAINED VIGILANTE:
Dionne’s criticism of Gingrich is a bit misleading. As we shall see, the erstwhile speaker accused Frank and Dodd of corruption; he did not suggest jailing them because “we disagree with” them. But that’s a quibble. Dionne is quite right to point out that in America we do not imprison people without due process. Neither Frank nor Dodd has been charged with, much less convicted of, any crime. Gingrich’s statement was indeed outrageous.
But as the transcript shows, it was not Gingrich who introduced this pernicious, un-American idea into the debate. It was Dionne’s colleague Karen Tumulty, a Post reporter and one of the debate panelists.
That’s different. She was talking about jailing business executives, not corrupt Democratic politicians.
HOW’S THAT HOPEY-CHANGEY STUFF WORKIN’ OUT FOR YA? (CONT’D): Nearly 8-in-10 Americans now see country on the wrong track.
Somehow, 16% of likely American voters still believe the country is doing swell.
Rescue teams are out looking for them right now.
Sixteen percent is not much of a political base for President Obama to build a 2012 reelection campaign on. In fact, the right track number is down two more points just since last week and down 16 points since last October.
Ouch.
