JANELLE HARRIS: Chivalry Is Dead, And You Killed It, Ladies.

UPDATE: Reader Donald Gately writes:

Ms. Harris has it completely backwards: chivalry isn’t dead because women stopped demanding it – it is dead because women (or at least the feminists they let speak for them from the late 1960s on) decried chivalry as being sexist and unacceptable, even to the point of being discriminatory in the legal sense.

I especially like how she tries to signal that she’s not one of those horrible conservatives by casually bashing GWB at the start of paragraph four.

Bush always struck me as being a gentleman in spite of the horrid treatment he received, whereas I imagine that the only place Obama has ever held the door open for a woman is at an abortion clinic.

Ouch.

THEY TOLD ME IF I VOTED FOR JOHN MCCAIN, THE COUNTRY WOULD BE RUN BY IGNORANT CONSPIRACY-THEORISTS: And they were right!

THE NEW CIVILITY: PETER KING PIG-FOOT MAIL CAME FROM MUSLIM BLOGGER:

A Georgia grandmother who says she sent state Sen. Greg Ball a Curious George monkey with a label saying it was bound for Auschwitz, cheap perfume and an anger-filled, anti-Semitic letter also laid claim Wednesday to mailing a bloody pig’s foot to Rep. Peter King of Long Island.

Jameela Barnette, a radical Muslim blogger, said Wednesday she mailed Ball a box containing the plush monkey pinned with Stars of David and the letter (which addressed Ball as “Dead Man Walking”) because he is “using Muslims to further his career.”

I don’t think the pig’s foot is Halal.

TIM CAVANAUGH: Syria’s Friendless Uprising. You’ll note that revolutions in American allies or clients are always pro-democracy, and very important, while those in countries that are enemies of the United States are much less interesting, and more complicated.

THE NEW CIVILITY: “The leviathan of all things wise, former MSNBC host and Current TV’s chief news officer Keith Olbermann, tried to cover his tracks Thursday afternoon after implying on Twitter that he wished Planned Parenthood had prevented conservative pundit S.E. Cupp’s birth.”

HAS THE GOP LEADERSHIP blown it?

UPDATE: A surprisingly large number of readers email variations on “Nobody tell Ann Althouse!”

STACY MCCAIN: “No Poor Man Ever Gave Me A Job.”

As an impoverished American — hey, buddy, you wanna try raising six kids on a freelance journalist’s income? — I look on in amusement at the self-described “Patriotic Millionaires” who insist that they should pay more taxes. I agree with Moe Lane: “Raise Your Own Damned Taxes.”

Contrary to all the class-warfare demagoguery pouring forth from Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself), conservatives do not oppose tax increases because we are beholden to the rich. Rather, the question is whether wealth does more good when it is invested in the private sector, to create jobs and economic growth, or surrendered to the federal government as taxes to support the metastatic growth of a pestiferous bureaucracy.

Meanwhile, here’s a website devoted to those “patriotic millionaires:” STFUandPay.com. There’s also a twitter hashtag: #stfuandpay. Because, as I’ve mentioned here before, anyone who wants to can raise their own taxes just by writing a check to the Treasury. The rest is just posing.

SHOCKER: Despite Pledges, Obama Has Made Tax Code More Complex. “This year, it will take the average taxpayer 23 hours just to fill out form 1040 — up from 21 hours last year, according to the IRS. It now takes seven hours to fill out the so-called 1040 EZ.”
