INDEED: “What attracts people to a Sarah Palin or Andrew Breitbart or dare I say Donald Trump is first and foremost a style that comes across as fearlessness. . . . Whoever is going to be the 2011 candidate is going to have to tap into that in a responsible, presidential way. Not pander. Not be reckless. But get it.” What’s wrong with most of the GOP Presidential field is that the rest of them aren’t showing that.

UPDATE: Herb Saunders points out Herman Cain. Good point.

FRANK J. FLEMING: Don’t Worry: Osama Was Shot in Accordance with Islamic Tradition. “I think in these situations, the most important thing to us is showing religious respect.”

Meanwhile, reader Michael Od writes: “Can we nominate the president for another Nobel peace prize?” Well, as someone eligible to nominate for the Nobel — a privilege I last exercised in nominating Arthur C. Clarke, who lost out (no kidding) to Yasser Arafat — perhaps I should pen a nomination letter citing Obama’s willingness to kill Osama bin Laden and bomb Khaddafy’s house as evidence of his suitability for a second award.

WILL “DESTABILIZING” INFLATION IN CHINA drag the U.S. down?

IN THE NAME OF “FAIRNESS!” Let’s have a tax on political power. “The wildly ambitious career of President Obama shows that power is more valuable than money. Taxes, by their nature, are levied on things of value. If we want to close the budget gap, we should let the millionaires and billionaires have their tax breaks. Their private property fortunes are comparatively worthless. It’s that treasure beyond the dreams of avarice, public political power, which needs an excise.” Read the whole thing.

YOUR KIND AIN’T WELCOME HERE. Given what I know about past Case Western deanships, it’s not clear who really came out ahead . . . .

THE CULT OF INTERNATIONAL LAW, REVISITED. “And I had to laugh when I read this: ‘What is just about killing a feared terrorist in his home in the middle of Pakistan?’ Only everything.”

CLAIM: Having Tonsil Surgery Leads To Weight Gain. “No one knows how to explain it, but studies show a link between the surgery and weight gain. . . . But so far only an association has been confirmed, not a direct causal effect. For now, experts say parents should simply keep an eye on a child’s weight after the surgery.” Hmm. On the other hand, tonsillectomies used to be routine, and kids used to be a lot skinnier.

DUE TO SOME SERVER ISSUES AT PJTV, Helen’s Dark Side Of Altruism show wasn’t working for some people. It’s fixed now. Enjoy!

IOWAHAWK: American Pride is Back Out of the Closet! “Who is to credit for this rebirth in American national unity? First and foremost, we must cite the leadership of President Obama. Like many Americans – and the Nobel Peace Prize committee – I naively feared he was actually serious when he initially proposed shutting down Guantanamo, trying detainees in American civilian courts, and prior consultation with the international community. Little did I know that this untested young Commander-in-Chief would muster the courage to read his weekly Gallup numbers and, in one daring unilateral extra-judicial targeted hit job, toss aside every single idiotic foreign policy principle of his election campaign. Perhaps most satisfyingly, it was a mission made possible thanks to information extracted by methods he previously banned as ‘illegal torture.'”
