OCCUPY HONG KONG: Reader Jerome Cole sends these pics from a protest that’s going on now. I wonder if the Chinese government will rethink its support of the #Occupy movement?

COMING CLEAN ON “DIRTY DUIs” IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY: “A whistle-blower tells how a private detective arranged for men to be arrested for drunk driving at the behest of their ex-wives and their lawyers — and that entrapment using decoys was only one of many alleged misdeeds.”

COAL-MINE CANARIES: Tester, Nelson unsure on teachers bill. “Sens. Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Jon Tester of Montana were the only two Democrats who voted last week to filibuster President Barack Obama’s $447 billion American Jobs Act. And they’re not yet sold on their party’s latest idea: Breaking off $35 billion from that plan for states and localities to hire teachers and first-responders.”

UPDATE: Reader Gerald Hanner writes: “Ben Nelson knows he’s in deep kimchee. For the past several weeks now, he’s been running campaign ads blaming everybody but Ben Nelson for the [your issue here]. He’s even gone so far as to name several state officials, including Governor Heineman, and Nebraska AG John Brunning as being ready to kill Medicare and Social Security in general. Does he think we’re all stupid? Wonder if any Dems will step up to challenge Nelson in the primary next May.” I don’t know what he thinks, but I’m sure he hopes you’re all stupid. . . .

ED DRISCOLL: Welcome Back My Friends, to the Malaise that Never Ends. “What would Bobby Kennedy think about today’s Occupy Wall Street? It depends on which period RFK you spoke with. Late period RFK — the man who told a group of college students in 1968 that America needed to ‘breed men who riot’ — would love it. An earlier RFK would have wire-tapped its leaders. But still, you’ve got to admire the man’s prescience. They told Bobby Kennedy that if America voted for Richard Nixon in 1968, a decade later New York City would be unlivable due to the stench in the air and the foul emanations in the street — and they were right!”

THE HILL: New healthcare fight as 2010 law implodes. “Congressional Republicans on Monday called for the immediate repeal of a major component of the 2010 healthcare reform law as the issue blew up in the administration’s face. The seemingly unworkable long-term care benefit contained in the health overhaul has been indefinitely shelved, quickly triggering a new offensive from GOP lawmakers that is expected to put congressional Democrats in a politically awkward position.”

HOW’S THAT HOPEY-CHANGEY STUFF WORKIN’ OUT FOR YA? (CONT’D): Credit Card Late Payments Climb In September. “In what may be an early sign that credit card users are again having trouble paying their bills, five of the nation’s top six credit card issuers said Monday that late payments rose in September. That’s the first month since February 2009 that so many major companies reported upticks in payments late by 30 days or more.”

BOB KRUMM: Is Iraq Over?

COULD OCCUPY WALL STREET create a run on the banks? Doubtful. Although if enough people try to withdraw cash, the banks could run out pretty quickly. But how many people really want to withdraw that much cash? Or have that much cash to withdraw?

But maybe someone’s read Instapundit on this.
