#OCCUPYFAIL: Does the Right Own the Occupy Narrative? “How would the national news media have reacted had Rick Santelli publicly warned that the Tea Party had run off the rails so badly that it was helping the Left? Verum Serum asks this question after the Guardian reports that the man who inspired the Occupy Wall Street movement warned that the volume of negative stories and violence coming from Occupy camps has given the Right the ascendant narrative of a political movement out of control. You’ll have to scroll down a bit, though, because the Guardian buried this lede far into the piece.”

WHEN CRUISE SHIP PASSENGERS disappear. “On cruise ships they have, quote, security officers, but they work for the cruise lines. They aren’t going to do anything when the lines get sued. We came to the conclusion cover-up is the standard operating procedure.”

CALIFORNIA’S “TOXIC” BUSINESS CLIMATE may keep it from participating in the recovery. If, you know, there is one.

#OCCUPYFAIL: Occupy Wall Street’s Image Problem. “Overt patriotism can make people on the left feel a little nervous. But when the nation’s symbols have such meaning to so many people, why cede the flag to conservatives?” They’ll just have to overcome their Oikophobia. And maybe their Eleutherophobia.

CAN EXERCISE ward off migraines?

UPDATE: A reader emails: “Per your link on your blog. I suffer cluster headaches which my GP tells me is a type of migraine. If I start to exercise or even just walk the dog for 30 minutes will reduce or stop the pain. This past summer I went on the Atkins diet to drop 30 pounds. I found being on a low carb diet eliminated the headaches. Once I lost the weight and resumed my old carb intake they came back. Went back to low carbs and the headaches are gone again. So I just watch what I eat. For the first time in years I no longer have to take medicine. I do miss potatoes especially smoked ones I do on the grill. Now I just have to watch for losing too much weight especially when I am very active.” Of course, exercise can cause migraines in some people, too. I’ve heard that Coenzyme Q10 helps, and I’ve had fewer since I started taking it, but I don’t know if that’s the cause. I’ve also worked out some of my computer-caused back and neck issues, and that may have something to do with it.

MICHAEL TOTTEN: The Christians of Egypt, Part 1. “Egypt’s Christians are second-class citizens. They were second-class citizens during the rule of Hosni Mubarak, and they aren’t remotely likely to acquire new rights after his fall.”

WALTER RUSSELL MEAD: “In another win for the famously blind meritocracy that rules American life, rewarding the ultra-talented and pushing the less brilliant and skilled into the outer darkness, Chelsea Clinton has landed a coveted position at NBC News. This was almost as much a surprise as her admission to Stanford; one can only marvel at the sheer guts and talent that have enabled her to overcome our society’s fixed aversion to giving a chance to the relatives of the rich and the prominent.”

Plus this: “The increasing sense that this country is run by a hereditary celebrity class is one of the most corrosive and dangerous forces eating away at our common life. The children of famous politicians could do our country an immense service if they sought out ways to serve that were more low profile. This would be particularly true for the children of extremely rich politicians.”
