CHAOS AT THE WISCONSIN CAPITOL: Meade returns with photos of people entering, as the state troopers stand by. It’s like the unionized law enforcement people are taking sides or something.

UPDATE: “Remember when ObamaCare passed, and Tea Partiers went nuts, stormed the hill, took over the building and handcuffed themselves inside? Yeah, me neither, because the Tea Partiers are civilized and didn’t do any of that. Wisconsin’s leftist union thugs, not so much.”

ANOTHER UPDATE: More here.

MORE: Meade has video.

OLYMPIA SNOWE WOULD DO WELL AS INDEPENDENT: “Despite mediocre approval within her own party, a new Public Policy Polling survey finds Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) would handily win re-election as an independent. In four three-way match ups, Snowe gets anywhere from 54-57% of the vote.”

WISCONSIN: Meade on the scene at the Capitol says hundreds of protesters have gotten into the building, and security is vastly outnumbered.

UPDATE: Protesters are locking the Capitol doors shut from the inside using metal handcuffs, Meade reports from the scene. Plus this: “Meade called back to say, some of the doors are handcuffed shut and some are wide open. ‘ANYBODY CAN GET IN AND ANYBODY CAN BRING ANYTHING IN. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SECURITY WHATEVER.'”

And, from the comments: “They intend to physically keep the legislature from assembling tomorrow to vote. Mob rule… ”

Also: “I guess that this means the new civility bullshit is officially over?”

And, noting the DNC’s involvement in these protests: “Barack Obama paid for, organized, and is putting on this riot.”

MORE: Michael Moore: “This Is War.” Yeah, I guess the “new civility bullshit” is officially over. Bear that in mind as you contemplate a response. I don’t think these people realize that they are setting precedents that they may come to regret. They are as feckless in this behavior as they are in their fiscal approach. The consequences are likely to be insalubrious.

MORE STILL: An I-told-you-so from Jim Lindgren.

Plus, reader Jeff Johnson writes: “Will the governor call in the National Guard? He’s not getting any support from the police.”

WHY PEOPLE SWITCHED from foraging to farming. “Without the need for constant movement, child-rearing would have been easier and safer, leading to a population increase, Bowles said. And since stored grain might be looted, farmer communities could have banded together for defense and would have eventually pushed out neighboring foragers.”

SO IS THIS THE HOPE, OR THE CHANGE: Americans see U.S. on wrong track: Reuters/Ipsos poll. “Americans, who are suffering from high gasoline prices, believe the United States is on the wrong track by a large margin, presenting a fresh challenge for President Barack Obama, a Reuters/Ipsos poll said on Wednesday. The proportion of Americans who believe the country is on the right track dropped 7 points in the past month to 31 percent, and 64 percent think the country is on the wrong track. It was the highest number of people in an Ipsos poll who believe the country is going in the wrong direction since Obama took office in January 2009.”

APPLICATIONS FOR THE KOCH ASSOCIATE PROGRAM are due this week. It’s your chance to join the vast right-wing conspiracy!

THEY’VE GOT A POINT: Scientists Warn Of “Dangerous” Over-Reliance On GPS. “”A significant failure of GPS could cause lots of services to fail at the same time, including many that are thought to be completely independent of each other.” Given its problems, however, I don’t think that Europe’s Galileo system will be an alternative anytime soon.

AT BIG JOURNALISM, AN EFFORT TO IMPROVE JOURNALISTIC ETHICS: We Call On the MSM to Adopt the ‘Rose/O’Keefe Standard of Journalistic Transparency’.

With their most recent undercover video investigations, independent journalists James O’Keefe and Lila Rose have set a new standard of transparency in the field of journalism — a standard I call on all media outlets — print, online, and broadcast — to adopt and to institute immediately. Within hours of releasing what the AP called “heavily edited” video footage of a high-powered NPR executive’s troubling statements with respect to the Tea Party, conservatives, and Jewish control of the media, Mr. O’Keefe then released to the public the full, unedited two-hour video of the entire conversation. Another New Media pioneer, Lila Rose, also released the full video of her undercover investigation of Planned Parenthood.

When will Dateline and 60 Minutes start doing the same? Plus this: “Because Mr. O’Keefe and Ms. Rose have led the way in journalistic transparency and taken the first step, as a show of good faith from the MSM in accepting this offer, we call on Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric to release every frame of video involving their 2008 interviews with then Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin.”
