BUSH-ERA “SCANDAL” OVER FIRED U.S. ATTORNEYS ends with a whimper.

THEY TOLD ME IF I VOTED FOR MCCAIN, “CHRISTIANISTS” WOULD TAKE OVER THE GOVERNMENT. And they were right! One-fourth of Democrats think Jesus will ‘definitely return’ in 40 years. “According to the poll, 26% of Democrats believe that the Second Coming ‘will definitely’ happen within the next four decades. In comparison 19% of Republicans believe this.”

DAVE PRICE WATCHES THE ENTIRE SHERROD VIDEO AND IS UNIMPRESSED: “Contrary to lefty spin, this context adds little and excuses less; no one ever thought she just got up there to talk about how she doesn’t like white people, so that it turns out to be part of a triumphant story of realizing class warfare is more important than racism (hooray!) isn’t a big surprise. Sherrod admits to racial discrimination in the course of her work . . . This is perfectly emblematic of the double standard Breitbart’s video was intended to demonstrate. If this was a white Republican man who admitted to having discriminated against blacks no one would be reconsidering anything, except whether to also file criminal charges.”

Ann Althouse has a similar reaction: “Sherrod does admit that she practiced racial discrimination against the white farmer. Later, she helps him, after it is ‘revealed to’ her that what really matters isn’t the difference between black and white but the difference between rich and poor. The fact that she later came around to helping the man doesn’t change the fact that she previously discriminated against him.”

If a white Republican had made a similarly charged racial statement, we wouldn’t be hearing about “context” or the evils of digging up video.

Plus some further thoughts from Althouse:

Make a note for later use: When someone discriminates based on race, if they subsequently assert that it’s important not to do that, it’s wrong to hold her or him accountable. . . .

Everybody got whipsawed by race. Wanna all just fold our cards in the long-running race game? Ah, no… I didn’t think so. You still think you can win, don’t you? And the play is so exciting….

ASSOCIATED PRESS: BLACK RACISM ON THE RISE?

Joe Hicks was a black nationalist and proudly demonized whites back then. Now a conservative Republican and vice president of Community Advocates Inc. in Los Angeles, which works to improve race relations, Hicks says today that black racism is not widespread: “The average black person doesn’t dislike white people.”

But he does believe it has become more prevalent than white racism. “Bigotry among white Americans has been driven to the margins of society. White people fear being called a racist more than anything else. But as white people have slowly moved away from viewing themselves in a racialized way, black people have maintained their sense of racial consciousness,” which sometimes leads to bias, he said.

JIM TREACHER: Hey, remember Al Gore? “I can’t wait to see how those CGI guys in Taiwan handle this one. So to speak.”

GREG GUTFELD: Racism, Racism, Racism! “In my opinion, the story of Shirley Sherrod isn’t about racism, but accusations of racism. If someone says they aren’t racist, and without any physical evidence to the contrary, you should take them at their word. Unfortunately, we’ve seen that this never happens.”

DAVID CAMERON TRAVELS TO WASHINGTON, flies commercial. Well, unlike a lot of ’em he’s walking the walk, at least a little.

INSTAVISION: I talk with Indiana Senate Candidate Dan Coats, about the election, the future and more. Plus, he says he’d support federal civil rights legislation to protect Second Amendment rights against interference from places like Chicago.

DROWNING DOESN’T LOOK LIKE DROWNING: “In real life, a drowning person will be a lot more still and silent than you expect.”

MORE FROM JOURNOLIST: Obama wins! And Journolisters rejoice. They seem to be planning for “epistemic closure.”

Spencer Ackerman: “Let’s just throw Ledeen against a wall. Or, pace Dr. Alterman, throw him through a plate glass window. I’ll bet a little spot of violence would shut him right the fuck up, as with most bullies.”

And Eric Alterman adds his own incisive analysis: “Fucking Nascar retards…”

Didn’t the “best and the brightest” used to be, I dunno, better and brighter?

UPDATE: Reader Elliott Davis emails: “The best part about Eric Alterman’s participation in Journolist is his authorship of What Liberal Media?: The Truth About Bias and the News.

Heh. Indeed. You gotta love this. Thanks again, Ezra!
