U.S. FACING A SERIOUS geek shortage.

GETTING DRUNK AS SIGNALLING BEHAVIOR. I knew some old-school politicians in Nashville who didn’t trust someone they hadn’t seen drunk. This makes some sense: “It is argued that drug consumption, most commonly alcohol drinking, can be a technology to give up some control over one’s actions and words. It can be employed by trustworthy players to reveal their type.”

DISCONNECT: Peggy Noonan on Obama: “He is not supple, able to hear reservations and see opposition and change tack. He has a grim determination to bull this thing through. He negotiates each day with Congress, not with the people. But the people hate Congress! Has he not noticed?” (Thanks to reader James Rehkopf for the tip).

Plus this: “There’s something tired in all this disconnect, something old-fashioned, something sclerotic and 1970’s about it.” Welcome back, Carter! Where’s my leisure suit . . . ?

THE AMIRAULT PROSECUTION: Another Coakley debacle. When Obama’s stumping for her on Sunday, someone should ask him about it . . . .

OBAMA TO CAMPAIGN FOR COAKLEY on Sunday.

WOW: Massachusetts shocker: Brown Up 15% in Pajamas Media/CrossTarget Poll. “A new poll taken Thursday evening for Pajamas Media by CrossTarget – an Alexandria VA survey research firm – shows Scott Brown, a Republican, leading Martha Coakley, a Democrat, by 15.4% in Tuesday’s special election for the open Massachusetts US Senate seat. The poll of 946 likely voters was conducted by telephone using interactive voice technology (IVR) and has a margin of error of +/- 3.19%.”
