HEY, THEY WERE ANTI-WAR, SO THEY DESERTED: What Ever Happened to Obama’s Army? “What happened to Barack Obama’s once vaunted political machine? The outfit that put upwards of 8 million volunteers on the street in 2008 — known as Organizing for America — is a ghost of its former self.”
THE SADDEST ADDICTION OF ALL: Farmville.
GOOD AND BAD BUYS AT TARGET. Or as we prefer to prounounce it, Tarzhay. Their store-brand groceries are particularly good, in my experience.

UPDATE: Jim Bennett writes: “In Canada, don’t forget the Diefenbunker.”
WHAT COULD GO WRONG? Teaching robots how to deceive.
POPULAR SCIENCE: DARPA Wants to Install Transcranial Ultrasonic Mind Control Devices in Soldiers’ Helmets. “DARPA has been trying to crawl inside the minds of soldiers for a while now, but a new ultrasound technology could let them get deeper inside than ever. Working under a DARPA grant, a researcher at Arizona State is developing transcranial pulsed ultrasound technology that could be implanted in troops’ battle helmets, allowing soldiers to manipulate brain functions to boost alertness, relieve stress, or even reduce the effects of traumatic brain injury.”
Rule No. 13 in Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” is “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Community organizer in chief Barack Obama has been trying to do just that. His target is John Boehner.
Who is John Boehner?
The Alinsky playbook contains useful tools for annoying and undercutting The Man. It doesn’t work nearly as well when you are The Man.

SOME OF THE EARLIEST COLOR MOTION PICTURES YOU’LL SEE: 1922 Kodachrome film test.
THUGGERY: Sebelius: insurers who criticize ObamaCare may get locked out of system. “Rarely have we heard a Cabinet official tell Americans to stay out of political debates at the risk of losing their businesses. It points out the danger in having government run industries and holding a position where politicians can actually destroy a business out of spite. It also demonstrates the thin skin of our current administration, where Hope and Change means keeping your mouth shut and pretending that everyone is happy while businesses slowly circle the drain.”
UPDATE: Reader David McCourt quotes Trotsky: “The old principle: who does not work shall not eat, has been replaced by a new one: who does not obey shall not eat.”
Or, you know, you can just tell them, “Bite me.”
TESTDRIVING VOLKSWAGEN’S ELECTRIC GOLF. “At 3358 pounds, the battery Golf weighs 452 pounds more than its diesel equivalent with a twin-clutch transmission. The motor punches out a healthy 114 hp and 199 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels. That’s enough to give it a top speed of 113mph, with 0 to 62 mph in 11.8 seconds. The bad news is the range is just 87 miles in the NEDC Combined driving cycle. After that you are in for an eight-hour wait if you recharge on a domestic US supply. If they ever arrive on the sidewalks, three-phase 50 kW fast-charge monsters will provide an 85 per cent top up in half an hour, but regular use of such rechargers will reduce the battery’s life.”
HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE BURSTING? 2007 Fordham Law Grad Goes From $160k BigLaw Job to Cleaning Toilets.
MEGAN MCARDLE: NO REFILLS. “In 2009, only 25 new drugs were approved—less than half the number in the mid-’90s. Why are new pharmaceuticals so hard to bring to market? Overcautious regulators and profit-hungry conglomerates make easy scapegoats, but they’re only partly to blame. While we’re waiting for both sides to reinvent themselves, even little things like better monitoring of side effects can lead to big new discoveries.”

PROFESSOR BAINBRIDGE: Liz Warren, Democratic Savior? “This has to be about the dumbest piece of political prognostication I’ve ever read.”
On the other hand, a Warren appointment would address the “critical shortage of Ivy Leaguers” in the Obama Administration.
