THIS WEEK in the future.

I, FOR ONE, WELCOME our new robot professors.

Er, wait, maybe not so much . . . .

TOM MAGUIRE: Losing Our Heads in Arizona. “Mr. Milbank has the gloomy task of attempting to prove a negative. Even though I find his rebuttal unpersuasive and actual evidence could prompt me to turn on a dime, I think he is right – pending a booth review, I believe the governor is recycling desert legends. I also think her broader theme, of a rising wave of smuggling-related crime in Arizona, is supportable.”

THE SUMMER’S BEST water gun.

IN THE MAIL: From John Ringo, Eye of the Storm.

YESTERDAY’S MACHU PICCHU POST produced this email from reader Russell Smith:

Just saw this post concerning Machu Picchu and cell coverage. I work in a remote site in Northern British Columbia (where I am currently). I check your site on my breaks. I can’t match the photo of Machu Picchu but I’ve attached one of the scenery near me. We get Internet and phone thru satellite coverage (a bit slow at times) but alas, no cell phone coverage. In fact, I’m sure there is no cell phone coverage for at least 100 miles in any direction, maybe even more. I’m jealous that they have it in remote a place as Machu Picchu but not halfway between Juneau and Seattle.

Yeah, but it’s still cool that I’ve got readers there. Nice pic . . .

AS OVERHEAD COSTS SHRINK, solar power becomes more attractive. I’m skeptical, but I saw a commercial on TV for solar air conditioners (no, really). So it does seem that some people are starting to push it.

WELL, GOOGLE NEEDS COMPETITION: Bing Nears 10% Of Search Market, May Be Viable Long-Term.

I’ve been using Bing pretty often, and especially their news search. It’s as good as Google, in my experience.

UPDATE: Reader Shane Corcoran writes: “As someone who lives overseas, I can tell you that Bing Maps is far superior to Google Maps in getting around, especially here in Morocco.”

JACK LAIL: Michael Moore Stole From Me. Hey, all property is theft. So somebody go “liberate” Moore’s bank account. . . .

POLITICO: Obama can’t shake gay-rights fights. “Next week, a lawsuit brought by the Log Cabin Republicans is going to trial in California — and Obama’s Justice Department is in the uncomfortable position of trying to prevent the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy from being overturned as discharged veterans testify about its dramatic impact on their careers. Some gay rights activists who were cheered by Obama’s decision in May now say they’re frustrated by what feels like a two steps forward, one step back approach to the issue — especially in light of Obama’s delay in seeking to repeal of the policy in the first place.”
