THEY TOLD ME IF I VOTED FOR MCCAIN, WE’D HAVE A PRESIDENT CHARGED WITH WAR CRIMES: And they were right! “A top Iranian regime official blasted Barack Obama today for his threatening comments about a nuclear attack on Iran. Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs, Hojjatoleslam Mir Tajeddini, told reporters that Obama should be tried in an international tribunal.”

POLL: 58% Support ObamaCare Repeal. “Three weeks after Congress passed its new national health care plan, support for repeal of the measure has risen four points to 58%. That includes 50% of U.S. voters who strongly favor repeal.” So much for the theory that once it was passed people would like it.

MARK HEMINGWAY: The Assassination Double Standard. “Make no mistake: al-Awlaki is a bad guy. He’s been definitively linked to the 9/11 hijackers, and more recently the recent Fort Hood massacre, not to mention the failed underwear bombing plot this past Christmas. But he’s also a U.S. citizen, and thus entitled to basic constitutional protections. So where are the denunciations of Obama’s extraordinary decision from those who spent eight years decrying Bush and Cheney’s wartime expansion of executive power?” Well, I think Glenn Greenwald grumbled.

FEWER STUDENTS, more teachers. “New York Governor David Paterson wants to reduce state aid to local school districts next year by 5% to address the state’s $9.2 billion budget deficit, and state educators are complaining that the cuts could result in teacher layoffs. Maybe so, but the reality in New York and other states is that teacher hires in recent years have far outpaced student enrollment.”

A REALLY CONTROVERSIAL POST: I’m still getting floods of email on the Rice Cooker post. It’s running heavily in favor, though Bill Quick does have some supporters.

NEWSWEEK GOES FOR BROKE: “It’s a destination that’s well in sight for them.”

WIDE AND FAST: A REVIEW of Nikon’s new 24mm/1.4 wide-angle lens. It’s a bit pricey for the likes of me, but cool. It also overlaps a couple of other lenses I have enough that I don’t think it would be worth it for me even at a lower price: the 12-24 superwide zoom and the 18-200 VR zoom. But for a serious working pro, it’s probably worth it.
