THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, from J. Storrs Hall.

A PRETTY GOOD PROFILE OF DANA LOESCH, though she provides some corrections here.

SORRY, BUT I’M SIDING WITH Professor Galloway on this one. Loved this part: “For the record, we also have no stated policy against bursting into show tunes in the middle of class, urinating on desks or taking that revolutionary hair removal system for a spin. However, xxxx, there is a baseline level of decorum (i.e., manners) that we expect of grown men and women who the admissions department have deemed tomorrow’s business leaders.” Judging from the comments, a lot of people agree.

HOW TO unlock your Nexus One and turn it into a 3G modem. I think you can do something similar with a Motorola Droid, too. It would be better, though, if they shipped with this feature, as some other cellphones already do.

UPDATE: Reader Fred Schoeneman writes: “You might want to clarify that those instructions are for linux. For Windows users, tethering your Nexus one is as simple as installing an application from the Android market — PDANet.” I did not know that. Makes me more likely to upgrade to a Nexus One.

I KNOW MY LIMITATIONS, and I know I can’t compete with nude women curling.

IN THE MAIL: From P.C. Hodgell, Bound In Blood.

CHICKEN: Olbermann declines Dallas Tea Party invitation. “Keith Olbermann has turned down the Dallas Tea Party’s invitation to come to its one year anniversary gathering this Saturday to see just how diverse its members are.” But he says some of his best friends coworkers are minorities.

Here’s the invitation he turned down:

PROFESSOR BAINBRIDGE: Polls without the right questions. “In sum, the trouble with polls like these is that they assume a free lunch and TANSTAAFL.”

CHANGE: Pew Poll: Favorability Ratings of Labor Unions Fall Sharply. “Favorable views of labor unions have plummeted since 2007, amid growing public skepticism about unions’ purpose and power. Currently, 41% say they have a favorable opinion of labor unions while about as many (42%) express an unfavorable opinion. In January 2007, a clear majority (58%) had a favorable view of unions while just 31% had an unfavorable impression.”
