AN IMPORTANT QUESTION: Yodels, Or Devil Dogs? I was always a Little Debbie man, myself.

TOM MORGAN: “The Democrats are rethinking their plan to let the Bush tax cuts expire. Their problem is how to disguise their change of heart going into the fall election.”

ANDREW EXUM: “Anyone who has spent the past two days reading through the 92,000 military field reports and other documents made public by the whistle-blower site WikiLeaks may be forgiven for wondering what all the fuss is about. I’m a researcher who studies Afghanistan and have no regular access to classified information, yet I have seen nothing in the documents that has either surprised me or told me anything of significance. I suspect that’s the case even for someone who reads only a third of the articles on Afghanistan in his local newspaper.”

KEVIN WILLIAMSON: Words I Never Expected To Type: Man, I miss the fiscal discipline of the Bush era!

“Let me see if I can type this right: $1,470,000,000,000.00 — and that is just the part of the bill that we do not know how to pay. The actual bill for government spending this year is more than twice that. We are borrowing 41 cents of every dollar we spend. We are spending $36,000 per household.”

HERSCHEL SMITH: Wikileaks and the Afghanistan War Diary. “More than anything else, this is a story about letting ideology get in the way of reporting, and about the failure of that same media to do the basic job of compiling information and analyzing it.”

OLIVER STONE apologizes.

BOOKWORM: How Journolist and Oliver Stone each serve to highlight the other’s insanity. “What’s so funny, in a sick, sad way, is that, looking at the Journolist, it really does seem as if there is Jewish domination of the media — except that the Jews doing the so-called domination are completely in sync politically with Oliver Stone. They’re all left, left and more left. They’re just all too dumb to realize that, when you get as far Left as Stone, the antisemitism stops being coy little references to capitalism, Israeli imperialism and Palestinian victimhood. Instead, it becomes the active antisemitism that travels from Chavez’s attacks on Jewish businesses, to Stalin’s periodic kangaroo court purges and suppression of religion, to Hitler’s final solution. (And I mention those three Leftist antisemites here because Stone specifically speaks of them as either admirable or misunderstood, or both.)”

TOM SMITH: Harvard Backs Harvard. “This is your country, and this is your country in the great neck massage circle that is our ruling elite.”

Plus, from the comments: “Come on, if she were both competent and a foe of Goldman Sachs, O wouldn’t appoint her. So which isn’t she?”

SUSANNAH BRESLIN:

Surely, I am not alone in raising an eyebrow rather than dropping a jaw over the release of The Supposed Pentagon Papers of Our Time. Even in the limited number of interviews I’ve done for The War Project, I’ve become aware of most, at least generally, of what the New York Times is working its inner-thighs into a lather over (primarily because they got an “exclusive,” uh, sort of, and, therefore, perhaps felt compelled to sell it thusly. We have something here! But did they? Well, eh, maybe.)

It’s possibly news to those who haven’t been paying attention. But I actually think there are fewer of those than is supposed.

AT AMAZON, a Back to School sale. Yes, sadly, it’s that time of year.

FOUR VACATIONS in one month? Well, technically about 5 weeks, but . . . .

UPDATE: Reader Mike Couvillion writes: “Don’t bash President O for taking so many vacations. My Gods man, do you actually want him in Washington doing any MORE damage? Let’s just let him continue to vote ‘present’ and try to minimize the collateral damage, OK?”
