I TRIED TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING AMUSINGLY SNARKY to say about this Turkey Baster post, but I got nothin’. Shootin’ blanks. Dry hole.

KEN RUDIN: John Edwards $400 Haircut Tip Came From Obama Campaign. “Remember John Edwards’ famous $400 haircut? It was that story, leaked to Politico back in April of 2007, that helped bring down Edwards as a ‘man of the people’ kind of candidate in his second bid for the White House. And where did that tip come from? The Obama campaign.”

MILITANT EXTREMISM in Minnesota?

MEGAN MCARDLE: Chavez’s Economic Problems Turn Nasty: “For a long time I have been saying (along with a lot of other people), that Hugo Chavez was running his country into the ground. He diverted investment funds from PDVSA, Venezuela’s state-run oil company, into social programs. As long as the price of oil kept rising, he could do that. Unfortunately, Venezuela’s sour, heavy crude is particularly hard to get at and refine, and requires a high rate of investment in order to keep production up. As a result, the number of barrels per day (bpd) that Venezuela produces has declined pretty sharply since he took office in 1999. As a consequence, the money that Chavez used to paper over the cracks in his socialist paradise has vanished, and the cracks are deepening.”

UPDATE: Afghanistan: The Failure to Plan Is “The Plan.” “Veterans of dysfunctional corporations will recognize the Obama style as the one in which upper management is fond of giving middle management ‘All the responsibility, none of the authority, and zero resources.’ It’s a time-tested recipe for failure and demoralization while maintaining an aloof, ‘concerned,’ and above the fray posture on the part of the CEO.”

ANOTHER UPDATE: Reader Dick Blocksma writes: “Kind of sounds like how GM was run, no?”

MORE: Tom Maguire bursts a bubble.

TELOMERES AND AGING: Longevity Tied to Genes That Preserve Tips of Chromosomes. “A team led by researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University has found a clear link between living to 100 and inheriting a hyperactive version of an enzyme that rebuilds telomeres — the tip ends of chromosomes. The findings appear in the latest issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.” Now if they can just stimulate the same thing artificially. Faster, please.

TOM MAGUIRE: “The NY Times front-pages a mini-debacle – Peter Galbraith, adviser to John Kerry and Joe Biden, has been getting rich off the advice he has been giving the Kurds. . . . If this had been an advisor to Dick Cheney, libs would be leaping from tall buildings (Glenn Greenwald may leap anyway). Instead, the Times is utterly and absurdly opaque on the Biden connection. . . . Back when Biden-advisor Galbraith was positioning himself to make millions with the Kurds, Biden was advocating the policies that would help Galbraith achieve just that. For the Times to pretend otherwise is absurd.”
