A SPRING SALE on toys and games.

THE FUTURE (AND PAST) of surgery.

TAX DAY TEA PARTY ATTENDANCE estimated at 551,000. And reports are still coming in.

POLITICO: Reassurances for thee, panic for me: “Sen. Richard Burr (D-N.C.) told his wife to pull the family’s cash out of an ATM at the height of last fall’s financial crisis — but he advised North Carolinians not to panic when Charlotte-based Wachovia was taken over by Citigroup in an emergency transaction around the same time.”

The country’s in the very best of hands.

UPDATE: Politico says Burr is a Democrat, but this says he’s a Republican.

HEH: Gawker: Fox-Bashing CNN Reporter Applied for a Job at Fox. “CNN’s Susan Roesgen went nuts on the air Wednesday at a Chicago tea party, blaming everything (accurately) on Fox News. But maybe she was angry because Fox turned her down for a job—twice!” Apparently, the hiring folks at Fox know what they’re doing.

HMM: Attorney: Justice Memos Prove U.S. Did Not Torture.

UPDATE: They’re debating this over at the NYT Room For Debate blog.

Here’s an excerpt: “Most prominent among those briefed on waterboarding was Nancy Pelosi. According to the Post’s interviews, members of the Congressional oversight committees understood that they had to weigh the limits of inhumane treatment of people known to have Al Qaeda connections against the threat of new attacks. They believed that these techniques struck the right balance in the circumstances. Yet I haven’t heard of any serious call for prosecuting Speaker Pelosi or any of her colleagues for complicity in torture.”

I haven’t heard much from Jane Hamsher’s pitchfork minions either.

TEA PARTIES ON C-SPAN: The release says: “C-SPAN will feature viewer-submitted videos of tax day events from across the country, tonight at 8:00 PM ET on C-SPAN 3. It will rebroadcast at 11:00 PM ET. The C-SPAN 3 audience will be able to watch these events from April 15th through the eyes of fellow viewers who recorded them in their hometowns. . . . You can watch the program live on c.span.org at http://www.c-span.org/Watch/C-SPAN3_rm.aspx, and after the program airs, the complete show will be available at http://www.c-span.org/TaxDay.”

A WALL STREET JOURNAL EDITORIAL ON REVENUE CAMERAS: The War On Short Yellows. “We still live in a democracy. One Arizona sheriff recently proved you could get elected by opposing speed cameras. Meanwhile, the state legislature is considering bills to dismantle the system created by Gov. Janet Napolitano when she faced a gaping budget deficit, before she escaped to the Obama Department of Homeland Security. Petitioners in Arizona are also gathering signatures to put the question directly before voters — speed cameras have never won when submitted to voters. . . . Why is this important? Because Arizona, specifically Scottsdale, is home to the two biggest companies, American Traffic Solutions and Redflex Traffic Systems, in the incestuous world of promoting and operating traffic cameras for revenue-hungry governments. Laid to rest long ago should have been the pretense that the goal is ‘safety,’ not chasing cash. New York State, sinking under budget shortfalls, last week authorized a batch of new red-light cameras around the state. A recent investigation by the Detroit News showed that even conventional ticket-writing is driven by revenue needs.”

JONAH GOLDBERG EXPLAINS THE OBVIOUS: “Fascism isn’t a libertarian doctrine! It just isn’t, never will be and it can’t be cast as one.” Well, DHS is trying . . . .

CAR CZAR STEVE RATTNER’S PAY-TO-PLAY SCANDAL: Not just an embarrassment for Obama — he’s also a Chris Dodd donor. Can you say “culture of corruption?”

MICKEY KAUS: New Dem Health Care Pitch: “We’ll Deny Treatments!” Well, give ’em points for honesty, anyway.

UPDATE: Reaction: “Well, I’ve certainly always assumed that. I’ve looked upon the prospect of health care reform and thought the truth was: Let the government let you die.”
