IDEAL FOR COVERING TEA PARTY PROTESTS AND MORE: The Flip Ultra Video Camera has been marked down to 69 bucks from $149.

HOWARD FINEMAN: “Obama still has the approval of the people, but the establishment is beginning to mumble that the president may not have what it takes.”

Maybe they’ve seen the MSNBC poll.

POLL: Grade Obama’s performance so far.

UPDATE: Reader Patrick Clemens writes: “Glenn: I look forward to seeing the results of this poll on Olbermann and Matthews’ shows, which should happen about the time Obama fills his administration with people who pay their taxes.” Yeah, with nearly 84,000 votes in, it’s not looking so good.

IOWAHAWK: Gift-giving tips from Barack Obama. “The Prime Minister brought a few housewarming gag gifts including a pen set made from a boat, a framed paper thing from another boat, and some old books by Churchill (not Ward, but that English guy). Obviously we wanted to return the nice gesture so I sent my interns out on a scavenger hunt for an appropriate present. They couldn’t find anything in the West Wing, but luckily Costco was open and was running a 25-for-the-price-of-10 clearance sale in the DVD department.”

RASMUSSEN: 53% Say It’s Likely the U.S. Will Enter a Depression Similar to 1930’s.

Two ways of looking at this: (1) Contrarian — this means we’ve bottomed! (2) Self-fulfilling — if this many people think we’re headed for a depression, that alone is probably enough to push us into a depression!

Which is it? Beats me, but I tend toward the contrarian. And one of my readers called a bottom last week. And the market was up today! But was it a real rally, a “bear-market rally,” or just a dead-cat bounce? We’ll see.

“PROMOTING” THE AIRBRUSHING OF THE AIRBRUSHING: It’s a fair cop.

ANOTHER BUSTED APPOINTMENT: CHAS FREEMAN withdraws his name.

UPDATE: More here. It’s also worth noting that, like the John Edwards story, press covering this withdrawal will have to explain all the stuff they didn’t report before.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Heh: “At this pace, Obama’s going to be reduced to filling Administration jobs in front of Home Depot.”

Well, that’s where you go to fill jobs Americans won’t do . . . .

MORE: Chas Freeman Withdraws and … Is There a ‘New Liberal Realism’? “I didn’t expect to find the ‘new liberal realism’ confirmed quite so emphatically as Freeman’s email says.”

STILL MORE: The Chutzpah of Chas Freeman.

Plus, does the White House know how to vet? Freeman Already Under Investigation.

MICKEY KAUS: “That’s what I get for believing a HuffPo headline.”

Plus this: “The whole Begala-Carville coordinated campaign against Limbaugh seems misguided when Obama is supposed to be leading the nation out of crisis (see Warren Buffett’s comments, below). Quite apart from whether it’s a good idea to take one of your smarter opponents and build him up, the campaign seems petty, partisan and poll-driven–not designed to produce any kind of national pulling-together. If Begala weren’t around I’d suspect Chris Lehane of thinking it up.”

FIVE TOWNHOUSES IN QUEENS. And the key lesson unlearned.

MUG SHOTS as punishment.

TEST-DRIVING A hybrid delivery truck. Seems like a natural application.

SHRUG? Yes we can!
