NANCY PELOSI: 500 million Americans lose jobs every month. Wow, America’s gotten a lot bigger — and the unemployment problem a lot worse — than I realized!
I don’t know that this really makes Nancy Pelosi “dumber than soap.” But if Sarah Palin had said this, it would be taken as proof that she was unsuited for national politics.
PARTYING ON THE TAXPAYER’S DIME: People picked on Wells Fargo, but what about this? $500K spent on Dem caucus retreats. “The House Democratic Caucus spent more than $500,000 in taxpayer money over the past five years for its annual retreats at resorts in Pennsylvania and Virginia. On Thursday, Democrats will head to the Kingsmill Resort and Spa in historic Williamsburg, Va., for the three-day planning powwow. The resort boasts multiple championship golf courses, a full-service spa and six restaurants.”
So much for “shared sacrifice” I guess. And it’s not as if Congress has done a better job managing its money than Wells Fargo has . . . .

WHO ARE the suicide bombers?
OH, GOODY: 40% of Japanese investors think there is a risk of a US default. “There are other reasons to worry about US debt, like the downturn, the dollar, and our entitlement problems. But when the citizens of a country with a debt-to-GDP ratio of 1 and more than a decade of economic stagnation behind them start complaining that you’re not such a good credit risk, it’s time to start worrying.”

STIMULUS: Democrats “do not have the votes.”
ANOTHER CALL for Geithner to go, too. “Daschle’s offenses, galling as they may be, are exceeded by those of Geithner. Indeed, of all the tax transgressions touching Obama’s circle, Geithner’s are the worst.”
ITALIAN RED-LIGHT CAMERAS rigged? I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of this happening in the United States.

TEETERING ON THE BRINK OF “an Obama implosion?” He’s had some bad appointments, and he’s being tested by the Russians, et al., but isn’t it a bit early to declare him a failure?

BILL CLINTON: “Nobody wants to repeal the Second Amendment, and nobody wants to keep you out of the deer woods, but wouldn’t it be nice if your children didn’t have to worry about being mowed down by an assault weapon when they turn the corner?”
Actually, I’d be more worried about my daughter if she were in Bill Clinton’s company. And, statistically, with a lot more reason . . . .
TOM DASCHLE’S WASHINGTON: His riches illustrate the expanding power of the political class. “Mr. Daschle’s embarrassment of riches is a typical story, and in fact is the result of the liberal ideology his critics have been advocating for decades. The main story of the Obama Presidency so far isn’t the contradiction between Mr. Obama’s campaign promises and the messier reality of his nominees. That was always inevitable. The real story is the massive transfer of power and wealth now underway from the private sector to the political class. Mr. Daschle could make so much money and achieve such prominence because he was expected to be a central broker in that wealth transfer.”
Meanwhile, before all this slips away, savor this for a moment.
ANOTHER QUESTIONABLE Obama appointment? “Sims is culpable for what may well become the largest fine for violations of public records laws in U.S. history.” Transparency!
