STARK:

WOW: Nelson And Lieberman: No Public Option Of Any Kind.

UPDATE: Megan McArdle:

At this point it’s hard to see them getting to sixty votes on anything. Frankly, I’m not sure that a majority of legislators want them to get to sixty votes on anything. Every time health care makes the news, its poll numbers drop further, and at 54-38 against, it’s already dangerously close to “Republican landslide if you pass it” territory. Outside of coastal enclaves, Democrats cannot win the next round of elections with no one but their base. And independents, already against the plan, especially hate partisanship. This makes it especially unhealthy to pass a bill they don’t like on a straight party line vote.

It’s a quagmire. Declare victory and get out.

STACEY CAMPFIELD: Subversive.

Talk about him “championing the rights of men to terminate their parental obligations” is a bit misleading, though, since Campfield’s bill allowed men who were not the fathers to get out of fraudulently obtained child support orders. Campfield got a lot of abuse, but I’m frankly astonished that this was controversial. Even The New York Times has recognized this problem.

TOTALLY SELFISH super powers.

IN THE MAIL: From Travis S. Taylor, The Tau Ceti Agenda.

BYRON YORK: Did AmeriCorps official lie about possible First Lady link to IG firing? “Congressional investigators looking into the abrupt firing of AmeriCorps inspector general Gerald Walpin have discovered that the head of AmeriCorps met with a top aide to First Lady Michelle Obama the day before Walpin was removed. . . . Alan Solomont, then the chairman of the Corporation for National and Community Service, which oversees AmeriCorps, had denied meeting with Jackie Norris, at the time the First Lady’s chief of staff. But recently-released White House visitor logs show that Solomont met with Norris on June 9 of this year (as well as on two earlier occasions). President Obama fired Walpin on June 10 after an intense dispute over Walpin’s aggressive investigation of misuse of AmeriCorps money by Obama political ally Kevin Johnson, the mayor of Sacramento, California.”
