CUTTING SOLAR POWER COSTS IN HALF: “The Atlanta-based independent inventor of the Super Soaker squirt gun (a true technological milestone) says he can achieve a conversion efficiency rate that tops 60 percent with a new solid-state heat engine. It represents a breakthrough new way to turn heat into power.” I hope this pans out.

A SUPERDELEGATE STRATEGY FOR HILLARY: But as I’ve mentioned before, it has risks.
HILLARY: “We’re in it for the long haul.”
UPDATE: It was a good speech, actually. But Obama’s was better, even though — weirdly, given that it isn’t his background at all — he seemed to be channeling a traditional black preacher.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Reader Bruce Webster writes: “Watching Hillary’s speech, and I’m reminded of the Addams’ Family motto (‘We gladly feast on those who would subdue us.’)” It’s an excellent motto, though better in the original Latin: “Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc!” Not just pretty words . . . .
MORE: Ben Smith: “Barack Obama put a positive spin on the second-place finish that no one was predicting 12 hours ago. . . . It was mighty quiet at Obama HQ as the results came in, though.”
HEH: “The exit polls have shown, the Democratic primary is turning into a battle between the people that pay for Social Security and those that collect it.”
UPDATE: Another heh: “Barack Obama’s an impressive guy; I don’t know anybody who dislikes him. But I think we should be encouraged that voters can stand up against an emotional 24/7 media Valentine for one candidate . . . Hillary as insurgent against the liberal MSM—you go, girl!”
FREE ADVICE TO THE MCCAIN FOLKS: Looking toward Michigan, why not emphasize Bob Zubrin’s flexfuel plan? You’ve already pretty much endorsed it, and Zubrin says that besides weakening OPEC and defunding terrorists, it’ll be good for American manufacturers because they’re ahead of the Japanese and Europeans on flexfuel technology.
BRENDAN LOY: “Did New Hampshire’s independents outsmart themselves, believing that McCain needed them more than Obama did, and thus deciding to vote Republican in greater-than-expected numbers… producing a McCain landslide and a Clinton-Obama squeaker?”
FOX SAYS THAT A.P. HAS CALLED NEW HAMPSHIRE FOR HILLARY, but Fox itself has not done so.
UPDATE: Fox has now called it for Hillary, too.
I’M WATCHNG JOHN EDWARDS SAY “This race is not about me.” Not with those numbers it’s not. And once again, his blink-rate is astonishingly fast. The crowd seems to like him, though.
ERIC SCHEIE is live-blogging New Hampshire.
CLINTON / OBAMA: It looks like whatever happens it’ll be close enough to keep them both going. That means that the primary will stay hot for a while, unless your name is John Edwards. The best part about this election so far is the way it’s made the predictors look bad . . . .
The downside is that all the candidates already look exhausted. Whoever wins the nominations will then face another grueling campaign season. Then the winner will take office as President — already worn out?
JOHN PODHORETZ: “As in Iowa on Thursday, the big story out of New Hampshire is a colossal turnout among those wanting to vote Democratic.”
NOW THAT’S DIRTY POLITICS: Mrs. Clinton smears Ike. First Barack Obama, now this!
EXTREME MORTMAN: “If Barack Obama really does finish in second in New Hampshire to Hillary Clinton by single digits after leading in the polls for days, he should copy the Clinton playbook: He should declare himself the Comeback Kid.”
BRIAN DOHERTY WRITES that those old Ron Paul letters have nothing to do with the “Ron Paul Revolution.” But he adds:
Still, his campaign’s reaction to this has been politically disastrous and given the third-rail nature of accusations of racism, Ron Paul’s campaign was likely fatally wounded today, regardless of the final vote totals in New Hampshire. Paul would have done better to more thoroughly explain how it happened, how it was dealt with at the time, and address how he as a politician would deal with any matters involving race–ideally, a fervent defense of equality under the law for all. If the ghostwriter has any respect for Paul and hope for the political future of the anti-state, anti-war movement that has coalesced around him, he’d do well to step forward and take responsibility.
That would be an interesting story. But there’s this comment:
Here’s my take: I’ll accept for the sake of argument the notion that he didn’t know that this stuff was in the newsletter. But I can’t imagine a responsible person permitting a publication under his name without reviewing it occasionally. I also can’t imagine a responsible person permitting a publication under his name without vetting the editor/publisher sufficiently to keep out the sort of whackjobs who would publish stuff like this. How can you expect anyone so careless with his own “brand” to be any more careful with the country’s “brand”?
Indeed.
UPDATE: Well, this bit suggests either that Ron Paul wrote this, or wanted people to think he did.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Ouch: “In the end, Ron Paul was a cult of personality without the personality.”
Yeah, though I saw that as a positive, kinda.
MORE: A defense of Ron Paul, from Stephen Green.
OVER AT ANN ALTHOUSE’S, they’re discussing the primaries.
ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY ready to ditch Hillary for Obama?
AT DAILYKOS, more blowback on the idea of Hillary going negative:
Hillary’s backers reportedly are planning to fund a Swift Boat-style 527 assault on the favorite for the Democratic nomination, Barack Obama. If we act now in a concerted way, perhaps we can head off Hillary’s Swift Boats before they slime the “change” candidate and tear down his winning coalition. I don’t think Hillary can win this anymore, but she could damage Obama’s chances in the general and hurt a wide mandate for progressive action.
Even the threat of going negative is hurting Hillary with Obama supporters. I’m not surprised. She wouldn’t be so constrained if Edwards were the frontrunner.
UPDATE: Is Hillary getting a secret boost from her pals at Diebold? But of course!
HERE’S A BIG NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY ROUNDUP. And Bill Bradley continues to update his coverage.
EARLY RESULTS show Clinton slightly ahead of Obama and McCain in the lead among Republicans. But it’s early yet.
UPDATE: Live results here, and ABC is projecting McCain the winner. Not that early.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Fox is projecting McCain the winner too.
