IF YOU MISSED IT ON XM SATELLITE RADIO EARLIER TODAY, the latest PJM Political is now online for your listening pleasure.

SO I JUST DID A SEGMENT FOR PJTV on the bailout bill, pork, and the economy with Rob “N.Z. Bear” Neppell, Andy Roth, and Bill Allison. I was hosting from my basement, Bill and Andy were in a studio in DC, and Rob was in by webcam from his office in California, and it was all run from the studio in El Segundo. Paul Block, PJTV’s producer, emailed: “I actually think we made some sort of TV/Internet history. It’s the first time I ever saw an interview done via the internet where the host was in a remote location and he interviewed people in two other locations and it was all switched though a control room in yet a fourth location.” It felt a little strange, but it was fun. We’ll see how it turns out when it runs later tonight . . . .

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: 2005?

ASTEROID EXPLODES OVER SUDAN, and there was some warning that it was on the way: “While boulders of various sizes routinely hit the Earth’s atmosphere, this was the first time that astronomers saw one coming and accurately predicted the time and place of impact, UH astronomer David Tholen said yesterday.” Plus, an Army of Davids effect: “JPL and the University of Pisa have software for impact calculations, but some amateurs did their own calculations, which were ‘remarkably consistent’ with professional groups, Tholen said.”

PATRICK HYNES TO CNN: Fact check this!

WELL DON’T BLAME ME, I BLOG ABOUT IT ALMOST EVERY DAY: American public remains uninformed about nanotechnology.

You know what we say here at InstaPundit: Come for the politics, stay for the nanotechnology! But if you’ve actually ignored these posts up to now and want to catch up, there’s a brief nanotechnology primer here, and a much lengthier treatment of many issues here. And here’s a Popular Mechanics column that I wrote a couple of years ago.

AND THE FIRST CHRYSLER HYBRID GOES TO . . . Lee Iacocca.

IN THE MAIL: Dave Kopel and Alan Korwin’s book, The Heller Case: Gun Rights Affirmed. With contributions by a lot of folks, including me, Eugene Volokh, Dave Hardy, and more.

THERE WILL BE A live webcast on the financial crisis from the Columbia Law School and Business School at 12:15 today. Access it at the link above.

FIVE high-tech earmarks in the new Defense budget.

CHARGES FILED IN THE PALIN EMAIL HACKING CASE:

A University of Tennessee student who is the son of a Memphis legislator has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of hacking Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s personal e-mail.

More here. Copy of the indictment here.

UPDATE: Orin Kerr thinks the indictment is flawed.

INSTA-POLL:

Are the Republicans doomed?
Yes, I blame the media.
Yes, I blame McCain.
No, there’s plenty of time for things to turn around.
I’m voting “present” on this one.

UPDATE: Marty Morahan emails: “I blame the media for the poll not working.” Yeah, it says it’s been taken down. Can’t figure out why, unless it’s “excessive use of server resources.”

DO-IT-YOURSELF TRANSCRIPTS for college applicants? “Starting with those applying this fall for admission to all three Rutgers campuses, high schools will no longer be asked to submit applicants’ transcripts. Instead, applicants will themselves enter all of their grades and high school courses in an online application form. An official transcript will eventually be reviewed for every applicant who is admitted and indicates a plan to enroll.” Hmm. I guess this is okay, but for some reason I’m reminded of those “no-doc” home loans . . . .

HAVING FUN with Sarah Palin. Yeah, readers keep sending me reports like this, which I’m not getting about John McCain. She looks like she’s having fun. He doesn’t. That matters.

THE FORGOTTEN WAR: A report from Michael Totten: “This war, the forgotten war of Nagorno (or “Mountainous”) Karabakh, has so far racked up a much higher body count – tens of thousands – than any in Georgia lately. Many more people – more than a million – were displaced. An uneasy ceasefire holds most of the time, but the conflict itself is not even close to being resolved. It’s a Mideast- and Balkan-style ethnic bomb that could easily blow up the region again and tempt Russia with another imperialist adventure in its ‘near abroad.'” Remember that Totten, like Michael Yon, is supported by reader contributions.

MICHAEL YON ON AFGHANISTAN: “It has become clear to me that we’re losing this war. But losing doesn’t mean lost.”

That is, you’ll recall, what he said about Iraq pre-Surge.

EXTREME MORTMAN: “It’s doubtful that the people of Estonia and Latvia would agree with that listing, that their countries are former Soviet satellites. Actually, they were part of the Soviet empire, illegally occupied by the Soviets. . . . The resolution had six co-sponsors. Among them: Barack Obama.” Hmm. Is that really a contradiction? I don’t think “satellites” necessarily means “voluntary allies.” In fact, I’d say it has the opposite connotation. Am I wrong about that?
