CORNELL HATEWATCH UPDATE: Cornell Junior Arrested and Charged In Threats Against Jewish Students.
Patrick Dai, of Pittsford, posted threats to shoot up a multicultural dining room on campus to an online discussion site, prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York said in a news release.
104West, the dining room, serves food that meets Kosher, Halal and other religious guidelines. It is next to the university’s Center for Jewish Living, where several dozen Jewish students live on campus.
Dai, a junior, also called for the deaths of Jewish people and threatened to bring an assault rifle to campus, prosecutors said. He was charged with posting threats to kill or injure another using interstate communications.
Dai faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison if convicted. He’s expected to be arraigned Wednesday in federal court in Syracuse.
Don’t let him off.

THERE’S WRONG, AND THEN THERE’S INSANELY WRONG: Roy S. Gutterman, a professor at Syracuse University and a self-professed expert in “free speech” published an Op/Ed piece on (where else?) CNN that misreads the remarkable victory handed to free-thinkers — especially in on-line forums — by Louisiana Federal District Judge Terry Doughty.
Doughty’s judicial opinion is the first to recognize that yes, the Biden Administration has been in bed with BigTech to directly, clearly and unambiguously censor or demonetize conservative speech, or speech that represents a threat to the preferred narrative. And you can bet your boots that a lot of the pro-censorship lefties are nervous. Very nervous.
The most glaring “nothing to see here” on Prof. Gutterman’s part is his glossing over and minimizing a key element:
“[C]riticism by government officials and gentle requests to take down content — absent concrete administrative or prosecutorial action — goes far short of censorship.”
“Gentle requests?” Who does he think he’s kidding? Nice media platform you got there. It would be a shame if something happened to it.
And oh, what a shocker! Gutterman appeals to emotion and that good old sawhorse “saving Democracy from misinformation”:
The complaint cites occasions when the Biden administration threatened to take antitrust action against the companies over misinformation about Covid-19, vaccines and elections or undo Section 230, a legal shield that protects tech giants from lawsuits. This also falls short of actual censorship. [Empasis added].
So let’s see if we have this right: There is no censorship, and no threat of censorship, but when the government does take or threaten to take action over what they call misinformation, “this also falls short of actual censorship.”
Anybody else see the circular logic being employed here?

SEGREGATION IN THE 21st CENTURY: For days, Syracuse University students have been conducting a sit-in, demanding, among other things, that “students of color” be permitted to select same-race roommate. According to the article in Campus Reform, Chancellor Kent Syverud “responded, saying he spoke with students and learned that they had ‘good reason to fear’ roommates who ‘harbor views of racism.’ He stopped short of agreeing to the demand, however, saying that he is having housing experts look into it.”

On the other side of the skirmish line we have the forces of the bipartisan political establishment under the command of General Barack Obama. Former Clinton administration Labor Secretary Robert Reich captured the shrill zeitgeist of apocalyptic liberal technocrats everywhere when he warned that Musk’s “libertarian vision of an ‘uncontrolled’ internet [is] also the dream of every dictator, strongman, and demagogue.” Uh, sure, “what linked Idi Amin, Suharto, and Adolf Hitler,” James Kirchick recently noted in The Scroll, “was their belief in unfettered freedom of speech.”
But the official, buttoned-up version of the freakout was articulated by Obama himself. Less than a week ago in a speech at Stanford University, the former president warned that it’s necessary to impose more regulations on the internet, in order to prevent toxic disinformation from destroying American democracy by eroding citizens’ trust. “Once they lose trust in their leaders, in mainstream media, in political institutions, in each other, in the possibility of truth, the game’s won,” Obama told the audience at the Silicon Valley hub. “As Putin discovered leading up to the 2016 election,” Obama said, “our own social media platforms are well designed to support such a mission.”
Obama’s latest forays into disinformation were a prelude to this development: free Speech Alert: DHS Setting up New “Disinformation Governance Board.”
Nina Jankowicz, who will head the board as executive director, has an extensive, swampy background in the area of “disinformation” as well as the geopolitical interface between Russia and Europe. Her bio for Syracuse University, where she is an adjunct professor, reads in part:
Jankowicz’s expertise spans the public, private and academic sectors. She has advised governments, international organizations and tech companies; testified before the United States Congress and European Parliament; and led accessible, actionable research about the effects of disinformation on women, minorities, democratic activists and freedom of expression around the world.
Jankowicz has extensive media experience, with writing published in many major American newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Atlantic. She is a regular guest on major radio and television programs such as the PBS Newshour, CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS and Amanpour, the BBC World Service, and NPR’s All Things Considered.
Clearly, the Left is very worried about black and Hispanic Americans hearing anything contrary to the party line.
Additionally, states the bio, “In 2016-17, [Jankowicz] advised the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on disinformation and strategic communications under the auspices of a Fulbright-Clinton Public Policy Fellowship. Prior to her Fulbright grant, she managed democracy assistance programs to Russia and Belarus at the National Democratic Institute.” Just the person to make sure only approved information reaches Americans, as the administration fumbles us closer to war every day while assuring us that news about Hunter’s Ukrainian lucre is merely Russian misinformation.
Jankowicz has written two books, How to Lose the Information War and How to Be A Woman Online. In a pinned tweet pimping her newly released second book, Jankowiz lets her inner misandry loose and writes, “Men ‘burst violently into your mentions and your life like the Kool-aid man, demanding your attention, hawking opinions that they believe are unarguably, manifestly correct and indispensable.’”
What could possibly go wrong?

It’s time for the counter-revolution, and one place to start is in two off-year gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey. Jersey is probably too far gone down the path of punitive socialism to be competitive—early returns by both mail and in-person (yes, they’re already voting even though Election Day is not until Nov. 2) show registered Democrats outnumbering Republicans 237,000-77,000, with another 56,000 ballots from independents. But the incumbent, Phil Murphy, one of the worst of the fascist COVID overlords, is widely loathed from the pine barrens to the hill country, so perhaps challenger Jack Ciattarelli has a chance.
In Virginia, former Clinton bagman Terry McAuliffe is trying to regain the governorship for a second, non-sequential term—Virginia’s governors can serve two terms but can’t directly succeed themselves—but a race that seemed his to lose just a few weeks ago now has become just that. The reclamation of Virginia—the birthplace of eight presidents—would sting the left badly and offer hope of reclaiming the Electoral College in 2024.
Hapless Joe Biden’s plummeting approval ratings—he’s so far underwater now he’d need a diving bell to resurface—have dragged former favorite McAuliffe down into a virtual tie with his hitherto unknown challenger, Glenn Youngkin.
McAuliffe, who has never lost his atrocious Syracuse, N.Y., accent, is a brazen carpetbagger and D.C. swamp creature who relies on the federal workforce in northern Virginia bedroom communities to put him over the top. But his temper—he stormed out of a TV interview the other day—and his insistence that parents should have no say in what their kids are being taught in the public schools have seriously damaged him with the electorate. In the meantime, real Virginians are propelling Youngkin to what looks like a photo finish.

I wrote yesterday about how even if Terry McAuliffe bought a new cringe-meter to replace the one that already exploded, the new one likely would have exploded by now, too. Well, I think it’s safe to say that it has indeed exploded.
I don’t know who dug up this video (likely Youngkin’s campaign) but in my opinion, the release of it was brilliant and perfectly timed. This potentially could be the next pivotal point in this race and further turn the tide against McAuliffe.Though black voters in the state, for the most part, appear to have forgiven Northam and have moved on, seeing McAuliffe so casually dismissive of Northam’s most shameful moment as his state’s CEO and then proclaim that there were no racism issues in Syracuse when he was growing up when we know that’s not true could have the effect of rubbing just enough black voters the wrong way. This could prove catastrophic for McAuliffe considering this race is coming down to the wire.
Will McAuliffe be asked about his comments by local reporters? If so, will he stomp off in a huff as he did earlier this week when he cut an interview short because he thought the reporter “should have asked better questions”?
While McAuliffe is defending governors who dress in blackface and say that parents have no role in their kids’ education, Barack Obama, campaigning for him, is his usual tone-deaf self: Obama tells Virginians we don’t have time for ‘trumped up culture wars’ and ‘fake outrage.’
